A small measure of justice was served to an Indiana family grieving the loss of their teenage daughter who, along with her unborn baby, was murdered at the hands of her boyfriend for refusing to have an abortion.

According to Fox 59 News, a judge sentenced 17-year-old Aaron Trejo to 55 years in prison for the December 2018 murder of Breana Rouhselang and an additional 10 years for the death of their baby, with whom Rouhselang was six months pregnant at the time of her death.

Trejo pled guilty to charges of murder and infanticide under a plea deal back in October. According to WSBT 22, Trejo faced a maximum of 80 years in prison. The South Bend Tribune reports that Trejo’s sentence is the result of consideration of his age, lack of criminal record, but also the violent nature of the crime. His sentences will run consecutively with no time suspended.

Although Trejo could be in his seventies upon release, the fact that a young man who knowingly and brutally ended two innocent lives for his own convenience will be housed, fed, and eventually walk free is utterly inexcusable.

Trejo and Rouhselang both attended Mishawaka High School in Indiana, where Trejo played football and Rouhselang was a cheerleader.

Trejo allegedly told police he stabbed Rouhselang in the heart outside her home because he was angry that she had waited until it was too late for an abortion to tell him she was pregnant.

He also told authorities that he had been planning her murder for more than a week. “I took action … I took her life,” Trejo told South Bend Detective Gery Mullins, according to charging documents obtained by Fox News.

Trejo, who was 16 at the time, also told Mullins that he chose to stab Rouhselang in the heart because it would kill her more quickly and that he stuffed her body in a trash bag and left it in a dumpster behind a restaurant.

For his part, Trejo was evaluated by a forensic psychologist who evaluated claims that his parents pressured him to compel Rouhselang to abort their baby.

The psychologist, Anthony Berardi, testified at Trejo’s sentencing that the teen felt “trapped” by his parents, who did not want the baby to be put up for adoption.

“He had a lot of repressed hostility, a lot of repressed anger,” Berardi said.

Upon announcing her sentence, however, Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Hurley noted that many teenagers feel the same way about an unplanned pregnancy but do not commit violent crimes as a result.

“It became apparent,” she told Trejo, “you had so many other options.”

According to The Associated Press, Melissa Wallace, Rouhselang’s mother, wanted Trejo to receive life in prison.

“I’m glad we got justice for Bre,” she said after the sentencing last week. “But no amount of time will ever replace what he took from me.”

Rouhselang’s father also spoke at the sentencing, saying that Trejo “[had] no remorse or regret for what he’s done,” according to South Bend Tribune.

Trejo himself offered an apology to his slain girlfriend’s family saying, “There is no excuse for what I’ve done. Saying I’m sorry wouldn’t be enough, but it’s all I can give.”

The murder of Breana Rouhselang is just one of a stack of recent incidents in which a pregnant mother had been murdered by the father of her baby for refusing to abort or adopt out their unborn child.

As we’ve previously reported, two Mississippi mothers were murdered just a few weeks apart from each other by their boyfriends back in August.

Alexandria “Ally” Kostial was found dead on July 20 near Harmontown, Mississippi. Authorities reported she had been shot 8 times. After investigating, police arrested fellow University of Mississippi student Brandon Theesfeld on July 22. Friends of Kostial have come out and said they suspect Theesfeld killed her because she was pregnant with his child and refused to have an abortion.

Theesfeld pled not guilty and remains in prison while his attorneys explore the possibility of an insanity defense.

21-year-old McKayla Winston, who was 9 months pregnant, was murdered by her boyfriend, Terence Sample, because she refused to abort or adopt out the baby.

In a shocking turn of events, Sample was released on a $500,000 bond back in October without any stipulations whatsoever, such as an electronic ankle monitor.

These are just a couple of many similar, heartbreaking cases.

As the intentional murder of an unborn child, abortion itself is already a vile and morally reprehensible act, yet our postmodern culture celebrates it as a woman’s divine prerogative to place her own life, goals, and happiness above that of her child.

While many spineless men pressure their wives and girlfriends to abort, women are often encouraged to abort their children even if they have the full support of the father who wants to raise his child. So, logically, is it any wonder to see fathers taking equal ownership of that “right” for themselves and killing the individuals who stand between them and their supposed happiness? Isn’t that what abortion is all about?
