The historically wholesome American Girl brand is facing sharp criticism from consumers over a book for girls as young as eight that promotes gender theory, puberty blockers, and even encourages children to contact LGBT organizations if their parents are not supportive of exploring gender identity.

The 96-page book, “A Smart Girl’s Guide: Body Image: How to love yourself, live life to the fullest, and celebrate all kids of bodies” is aimed at girls aged 8-13 and discusses “gender expression” and advises children that doctors might offer puberty blockers to give them time to figure their own out.

“The way you show your gender to the world through clothes and behaviors is your gender expression,” the book states, as reported by The Daily Mail. “Your gender expression can be feminine, masculine, or somewhere in between – and it might change! Maybe you’ll experiment with bright dresses and long, feminine hairstyles. Or you might try baggy shorts, plaid shirts, and a buzzed haircut. Your gender expression should make you feel at home in your body.”

“Parts of your body may make you feel uncomfortable and you may want to change the way you look. … ‘That’s totally OK!” it continues, telling young readers that if they “haven’t gone through puberty yet” that “the doctor might offer medicine to delay your body’s changes, giving you more time to think about your gender identity.”

“You can appreciate your body for everything it allows you to experience and still want to change certain things about it,” it reads.

The already jaw-dropping advice for children continues on to say that “If you don’t have an adult you trust, there are organizations across the country that can help you. Turn to the resources on page 95 for more information.”

In states like California and Michigan, lawmakers have moved to enable youth gender transitions without parental consent, even as states like Texas and Florida move to ban these controversial drug treatments and surgeries.

Just last week, President Joe Biden’s Health and Human Services Department made known that the administration supports taxpayer-funded transgender treatments for children and opposes limiting access to the same, also subtly indicating its support for such treatments to be made available even without parental consent.

The Daily Wire notes that while the original American Girl dolls and accompanying books shared inspiring stories of girls throughout American history, the company has shifted its focus to empowered modern women since being acquired by Mattel in 1998.
