Back in June, the state of Texas passed legislation, signed by Governor Greg Abbott, called the No Taxpayer Dollars to Abortion Providers Act. The bill makes it illegal for funds from state and local governments to be used to fund any abortion providers or their affiliates and also prevents any taxpayer-funded abortion lobbying. Sadly, the City Council of Austin, the state’s notoriously leftist capitol, has found a way to support abortion with taxpayer money in a desperate attempt to skirt the new law.
Earlier this week, the city council “voted to spend $150,000 taxpayer dollars to help Austin women get abortions,” according to KADN News. The money will be used to fund services like travel, lodging, childcare, and “other logistical support for women who need the procedure.”
As if any woman “needs” to murder her unborn baby.
Greg Casar, an Austin City Council member, told NBC News, “Every day the anti-abortion elements in Texas, in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere, wake up and think, ‘How can we restrict access to abortion today.’ That makes it our job, every day, to work to expand access to abortion and health care and other basic services related to abortion.”
On that note, it would appear that every day pro-abortion enthusiasts wake up every day and imagine all the ways they can encourage as many women as possible to kill their babies.
Considering that late-term abortion is illegal in Texas, Life News speculates that it’s not unlikely the funds will go towards some women seeking late-term abortions, in which case taxpayer money could be used to help them travel to a state where the procedure is still legal. So, not only will these women get to kill their unborn babies, but they’ll also get an all-expenses-paid trip to do it. How incredibly vile.
Nicole Hudgins, a member of the pro-life group Texas Values, had some honest criticism of the new bill, according to WOAI. “It is appalling the city of Austin doubled-down on its policies to ‘save the trees, kill the children,’” she said. “This budget amendment is a political stunt attempting to circumvent the law. If the city really wants to help women, they should lower their taxes and stop killing innocent children.”
Rather than helping women in a positive, life-affirming way by bolstering support for adoption or foster programs, Austin City Council members have just made it easier for women to kill their children while inflicting life-long emotional, spiritual, and physical scars upon themselves. The supposed “pro-choice” members of the council only seem to be concerned with the singular option of abortion as a means to “help” women.
Since the City Council is obviously just attempting to skirt the new law, State Sen. Donna Campbell said she plans to investigate the matter and make a determination on whether or not the budget amendment is legal. Pro-abortion groups like NARAL Texas and the Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equality claim the measure is not illegal because the money would not be directly funding abortion procedures themselves, but rather only helping women get them.
It seems like comparing apples to apples.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out and how these pro-abortion organizations will manage to prove that they do not fall under the category of “abortion affiliates.”
Texas Right to Life condemned the budget amendment, saying, “This grotesque news is another example of the abortion industry exploiting taxpayers to profit off vulnerable women and kill preborn children.”
They are exactly right. This move by the Austin City Council is an underhanded, deliberate attempt to buck against the state’s attempts to keep taxpayers from paying for mothers to kill their children. How unfair that taxpayers in Austin are still being forced through a loophole to continue to fund abortion.
Elsewhere in Texas, citizens are making tremendous strides in dedicating sanctuary cities for the unborn and making real, life-affirming changes in their communities to end this holocaust. The City of Austin would do well to stand up and take notice.
