President Joe Biden’s administration is holding school districts “hostage” over trans bathroom policies, parent activists say in response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s announcement requiring schools to prove they are not discriminating on the basis of gender identity to be awarded school lunch money.
Last month, the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) announced that it interprets Title IX protections to include gender identity discrimination, effectively requiring state and local agencies that receive its funds to ensure they allow trans students to use the bathrooms and other facilities that correspond with their gender identity.
The policy was made to be consistent with President Biden’s Executive Order on Preventing and Combatting Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation, which states that”:
Every person should be treated with respect and dignity and should be able to live without fear, no matter who they are or whom they love. Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports.
“What you’re seeing here is really the Biden administration saying ‘you’re going to do what I want or I’m going to take your lunch money,’” Ian Prior, executive director of the group Fight for Schools, told Fox News.
“For the federal government to come in and really tie school nutrition and school lunch programs to this radical ideology is terrifying, and it’s appalling.”
The USDA’s announcement “essentially amounts to the Biden administration holding states and local school districts hostage with school lunch money that goes to underprivileged youth in order to pass transgender non-discrimination policies,” he continued.
“I honestly have no idea how providing food to children in schools is somehow connected to transgender policies. What we see here is the Biden administration using children as pawns in this social justice, gender ideology game that they are playing,” he stated.
