A First Nation school in Canada has been accused of giving kindergartners an assignment that urged them to discuss their own habits of masturbation, a report alleges.
The Substack page for popular Twitter account Libs of TikTok reported last week that the assignment was said to have been handed out to students at the T’lisa̱lagi’lakw School in Alert Bay, which is part of the Namgis First Nation of British Columbia.
“Some children like to touch their own private body parts and some children don’t,” the alleged assignment read, according to photos posted by Libs of TikTok. “What places in your home are private?” the worksheet then asked the students, leaving blank spaces for the children to fill out.
It then instructed the students to “Draw a picture of the private places where you can touch your penis or vulva if you want to.”
“All families have different rules about masturbation (touching your own private parts),” the sheet concluded. “Talk to your trusted grown-ups about your family rules.”
Libs of TikTok noted that the worksheet is adapted from the book “Body Smart: Right From the Start” which is aimed at 3-7-year-olds.
A spokesperson for the First Nations told the page that the incident is under investigation, which the parent that first alerted Libs of TikTok about the assignment confirmed was the case.
Parents reportedly flocked to social media to express outrage over the reported assignment.
“You know I was going to keep quiet and handle this quietly but f*** it,” one unnamed parent allegedly wrote. “#1, I was not informed this would be discussed, no info came home beforehand. #2 my daughter is in JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN!”
“I did call the school and I’ll be doing a formal written complaint as well,” they noted.
