A large group of Canadian truckers is making its way in a massive convoy of big rigs across the country to the capital city of Ottawa to protest extreme vaccine mandates that threaten to leave thousands out of work.

The Freedom Convoy 202, which has already raised over $3 million for the cross-country demonstration, was organized in response to regulations that beginning January 15, required all drivers returning from the United States to quarantine for two weeks and all those crossing into the U.S. to be vaccinated.

Similar requirements from the American federal government require all truckers driving into the U.S. to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as well.

“It’s our duty as Canadians to put an end to this mandate,” the group’s GoFundMe page explains. “It is imperative that this happens because if we don’t our country will no longer be the country we have come to love.”

The convoy left British Columbia on Sunday and plans to arrive in Ottawa on Saturday, The Epoch Times reported, where they will be joined by truckers from every province in the country and hold a demonstration against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s mandates.

“We are taking our fight to the doorsteps of our Federal Government and demanding that they cease all mandates against its people. Small businesses are being destroyed, homes are being destroyed, and people are being mistreated and denied fundamental necessities to survive. It’s our duty as Canadians to put an end to this mandate,” the group stated.

According to the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), which supports the federal mandate, as many as 16,000 drivers could be facing unemployment thanks to the vaccine requirement.
