Liberal Official Compares Christian Baker Who Refused To Make Gay Wedding Cake To Hitler

A clueless leftist commissioner has taken to comparing a Christian baker who refused to make a gay wedding cake to the animals who perpetrated the Holocaust.

According to The Daily Signal, Colorado Civil Rights Commissioner Diann Rice stated, concerning backer Jack Phillips, “freedom of religion and religion has been used to justify all kinds of discrimination throughout history, whether it be slavery, whether it be the Holocaust. I mean, we can list hundreds of situations where freedom of religion has been used to justify discrimination. And to me it is one of the most despicable pieces of rhetoric that people can use—to use their religion to hurt others.”

“Little did Rice know,” reports The Daily Signal, “Phillips’ father fought in World War II, and saw many of the Holocaust atrocities for himself.”

The Daily Signal actually interviewed Phillips about the comparison.

“This was particularly offensive to me,” Phillips said of Rice’s words. “I don’t have the vocabulary for it but for someone to compare trying to live by your faith to the person who brought on the Holocaust or to slave owners it’s just — it’s insulting. It’s ridiculous. I don’t have the word for it, but it’s wrong.”

“My situation has nothing to do with the Nazis,” he continued. “It has nothing to do with racism. I want to run my bakery in a way everyone who comes in is welcome. I don’t care what their political persuasions are. God created lots of people. He created every one of them. And He wants us to show His love to them.”

Phillips further stated that while he serves anyone, he will not create cakes for every occasion.

This got him into quite a bit of trouble in 2012, when he refused to bake a wedding cake for two gay men – David Mullins and Charlie Craig.

The couple subsequently sued him successfully. Phillips continues to contest the lawsuit, claiming the prior ruling is an infringement on his own rights.

The Supreme Court will hear Phillips’ case.
