On June 14, alt-left radical James T. Hodgkinson opened fire on Republican congressmen as they practiced for a charity baseball event.
The Bernie Sanders-supporting Hodgkinson wounded five people, including Congressman Steve Scalise, who was taken to a hospital after a life-threatening shot to the hip. Hodgkinson was killed by police during an exchange of gunfire.
After many surgeries, Scalise was placed in the intensive care unit (ICU). The congressman was moved out of the ICU on June 22, and is now out of the woods and on the road to recovery.
“He’s gonna walk, but he’s gonna have to relearn how to do it,” said House Speaker Paul Ryan on Monday. “I won’t go into the details of the multiple operations he’s had, but yeah, he’s gonna walk.”
Scalise reportedly intends to return to the House of Representatives when he is able.
