Disney World has confirmed that they are putting their COVID-19 vaccine requirement for employees on hold following legislation signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis which bans vaccine mandates in the Sunshine State.

“We believe that our approach to mandatory vaccines has been the right one as we’ve continued to focus on the safety and well-being of our cast members and guests, and at this point, more than 90% of active Florida-based cast members have already verified that they are fully vaccinated,” a spokesperson for the company told Fox Business. “We will address legal developments as appropriate.”

Meanwhile, an internal Disney memo said that the requirement will remain paused as the corporation “assesses the new state laws protecting workers from vaccine mandates,” FOX 35 Orlando reported, having obtained a copy of the memo from Disney cast members, it said.

Several Disney World cast members have been working to pressure the company to suspend the requirement over their personal objections to the COVID-19 vaccine.

“For me personally, I was trying to reach out to Disney and reason with them when I wrote my open letter on the website,” Nick Caturano told Fox Business.

The Disney employee has organized protests against the mandate and has an open letter to the company displayed on his website GoofyVaccine.com.

“But, the legislation really put it over the edge, and it looks like Disney must have had an emergency meeting, I’m guessing,” he said. “And, I heard probably around noon that managers were leaking that they were getting these emails that they were going to stop the mandates. And, as regular cast members, we got it [at around] 2 p.m,” Caturano explained.

This week, DeSantis signed legislation that is aimed at protecting Floridians from being fired for not complying with COVID-19 vaccine requirements.

“I told Floridians that we would protect their jobs, and today we made that the law,” the governor said in a press release. “Nobody should lose their job due to heavy-handed COVID mandates, and we had a responsibility to protect the livelihoods of the people of Florida. I’m thankful to the Florida Legislature for joining me in standing up for freedom.”

“Nobody should lose their job because of these Covid jabs,” he emphasized during a signing ceremony in Brandon, Florida on Thursday. “Mandate restrictions [are] tearing people down. Today we lift people up.”
