The father of Meadow Pollack, a victim of the 2018 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School says that the restorative justice policy enacted by former President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden made his daughter’s death possible.
“Far-left Democrats in our school district made this shooting possible because they implemented something they called restorative justice,” Andrew Pollack said on Monday at the Republican National Convention. “It’s tough to understand how much Mr. Biden understands what happened at Parkland. He’s campaigned bringing back restorative justice.”
Meadow was one of 17 students shot and killed by Nikolas Cruz in the Valentine’s Day attack.
According to Pollack, a culture of leniency failed to hold the deeply troubled Cruz accountable for a string of foreboding incidents that occurred before the shooting. Meanwhile “far-left Democrats,” Pollack adds, exacerbated the situation by implementing a policy designed to reduce school suspensions that ultimately blames teachers for student failures.
“Mr. Biden may not know when my daughter was murdered, but I do. Feb. 14, 2018. Mr. Biden may not know that these policies make shootings more likely, but I do. Mr. Biden may not know who was vice president that day, but I do. It wasn’t Joe Biden, it was Mike Pence, thank God,” Pollack said.
“And I know who the president was too,” he went on. “It wasn’t Barack Obama, it was President Donald J. Trump. And he took action. I truly believe the safety of our kids depends on whether this man is reelected.”
Pollack’s declaration was confirmed the very same year his daughter’s life was taken when markedly different policies led to a better outcome for another school.
Back in 2018, a 13-year-old student in Las Vegas had been arrested by police shortly after making violent threats online.
According to Fox5 Vegas, the student, whose identity was not published, made five posts on Instagram, some of which included messages such as “Prepare for school on Monday” and “I’m going to murder you,” as well as claiming to have a “death list.”
Because the threats were reported to school officials and promptly reported to police who took the threat seriously, yet another horrific massacre was avoided.
After countless credible threats from Cruz, this should have been the case in Parkland.
Unlike in Las Vegas, Cruz’ and Pollack’s school had an agreement with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office that students who committed crimes would not be prosecuted, as part of the Obama-era “Promise” program.
“Ultimately cost 17 individuals their lives,” Elizabeth Johnston reported at the time. “Holding children accountable for actual crimes they commit is the one and only way for them to truly learn the weight of their actions. It’s that simple.”
