School board members around the country have been facing harsh scrutiny over the last year as pandemic protocols and controversial curricula are causing a stir among parents.
One Broward County, Florida school board member seems to have had no other intention than to pour gasoline on the flames last week after not only happily helping to chaperone a field trip to a local gay bar for elementary school students, but tweeting about it afterward.
The backlash was swift, as you can imagine.
The Western Journal reports that board member Sarah Leonardi tweeted a picture of students from Wilton Manors Elementary School on Wednesday which depicted the little ones sitting at a table inside Rosie’s Bar and Grill in Wilton Manors.
I was SO honored to be invited to chaperone @WiltonManorsES’s field trip to the incredible Rosie’s! The students and I had a fun walk over and learned a lot about our community! A huge thank you to @RosiesBnG for hosting this special field trip every year! pic.twitter.com/A3rpMbyUJP

“On its online menu, Rosie’s has items such as ‘Naked Sweaty Lovin’,’ ‘Smack My Cheeks and Make ‘em Rosy Sauce,’ ‘Miley Highclub’ and ‘Beet Your Brains Out,’” the Journal notes. “Doesn’t that sound like a nice, family-friendly establishment?”
Many Twitter users certainly didn’t think so after more information about the event and the bar was posted by the account Libs of TikTok, which also recently tweeted out photos of a Kentucky high school that hosted a “man pageant” featuring teen boys who gave lap dances to school administrators in drag.

Earlier this year, a video of children collecting tips for drag performers at 11:40 at night in a Miami drag bar went viral, causing a similar backlash.
Of course, in that case, those children were presumably not on a school field trip accompanied by a member of the school board, but these days, you just never know.
