It can’t be easy in the glitz and glamor of the limelight to maintain humility and faithfulness to your Lord and Savior.
As the Bible says, you can’t serve two masters, and when you are offered fame and riches for a talent God has given you, the temptation will wait around every corner to compromise your faith for the sake of worldly gain.
That is why it is particularly impressive when talented, successful people take a bold stand for their faith, forsaking monetary rewards for the sake of serving the Lord.
This is what happened to BMX gold medalist Colton Satterfield who, up until recently, enjoyed global fame and a lucrative sponsorship from energy drink giant Monster.
Liftable reports:
Monster Energy’s edgy logos and marketing no longer could be supported by the gold medalist because of “personal religious reasons,” according to his statement posted by Vital BMX. He explained that this decision was not made lightly.
He was willing to give up the financial gain and other benefits that came from Monster Energy as a sponsor. He also realizes that much of the world will not understand his decision.
“I can imagine some non religious people thinking this is wild or crazy, and not that long ago I would have been one of those people… But I had a strait (sic) up real and wildly profound experience that shockingly confirmed serious religious truth to me,” Satterfield wrote in a followup statement.
Satterfield has been recently very outspoken about his faith, posting on Instagram on Nov. 12 that “God is actually real, Christ actually lives, and there is one entirely true Church with the entire fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ restored by Him. A knowledge and gift and truth so glorious that it should be consistently shouted and shared.”
His Instagram also features many other Bible passages and bold declarations of faith.
It is incredibly inspiring to see a brother in Christ who would willingly give up such a huge sponsor for the sake of remaining true to His Lord. This is a perfect example of Matthew 10:32, “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.”
Satterfield may be giving up earthly wealth, but it is in exchange for eternal rewards in heaven! Well done, brother!
