Over a dozen Republican attorneys general have put their names behind a letter warning Google not to discriminate against pro-life pregnancy centers that target abortion-seeking women as the tech giant faces pressure from pro-abortion politicians to do so.

“Suppressing pro-life and pro-mother voices at the urging of government officials would violate the most fundamental tenet of the American marketplace of ideas,” the attorneys general wrote in the letter, issued to Google CEO Sundar Pichai last week, as The Blaze reported.

The state officials promised to “act swiftly to protect American consumers from this dangerous axis of corporate and government power” if the tech company caved to pressure from pro-abortion figures calling on them to prevent pro-life crisis pregnancy centers, or CPCs, from their search results.

Last month, Democratic lawmakers and officials issued calls to Google to suppress these facilities.

On June 17, Congressional Democrats led by Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) wrote a letter to Pichai pressuring his company to remove CPCs, which the lawmakers referred to as “anti-abortion fake clinics,” from “Google search results, ads, and Maps.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James penned her own critique of Google allowing CPCs to be included in search results.

“CPCs exist solely to intercept and dissuade pregnant people from making fully informed decisions about their healthcare such as the choice to obtain an abortion,” James wrote.

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA), meanwhile, has crafted legislation to combat “anti-abortion disinformation” and even calling for CPCs to be “shut down.”

In a press conference last month, Warren referred to the facilities as “deceptive.”

“These are deceptive outfits that front for groups that are trying to harass or otherwise frighten people who are pregnant to keep them from seeking an abortion, and they do so under the cover of pretending to offer abortion services,” she claimed.
