Hundreds Defy Gov. Whitmer, Gather To Get Their Hair Cut On The Michigan Capitol Steps At “Operation Haircut”

Hundreds of Michiganders gathered at the Lansing capitol building to protest Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s closure of non-essential businesses—and get a long-overdue trim—during a Wednesday event called “Operation Haircut.”

“Dope shops are open, abortion mills churn on, but barber shops are, somehow, unsafe. Show us that ‘science,’ Governor!” said Marian Sheridan, a co-founder of the Michigan Conservative Coalition, which organized the event, according to Fox 2 Detroit. “Her actions show this is now about a progressive radical agenda.”

“Protesters come get your FREE Hair Cut!” the Facebook page for the event says in its description. “Decorate your cars! Bring signs! This is a Family Friendly PROTEST!”
“Barbers and stylists – bring a chair and your scissors or clippers!” the description continues. “Set up on the lawn of the Capitol! Bring a tip Jar, wear a mask if you would like too! We support all barbers, hairstylists, nail techs, massage therapists, salons all over Michigan that have been shut down and can’t feed their families. Show GRETCHEN WHITMER you need your Jobs and Businesses BACK!”

The event was inspired by Karl Manke, the Owosso barber who reopened his shop earlier this month in defiance of Whitmer’s orders.

Manke, as well as Dallas hairdresser Shelley Luther, were both in attendance at the event:

For their efforts, anyone “engaging in haircuts” were “educated on the law” by Michigan State Police, who began issuing $500 and $1000 citations to those who would not comply.

According to a spokesperson from MSP, those tickets will be forwarded on to the Attorney General’s office for review.

As we reported last month, the Michigan Conservative Coalition also hosted “Operation Gridlock,” a massive protest in which motorists jammed the streets of the capitol to protest Whitmer’s oppressive orders.

As they ramp up, however, the protests only strengthen Whitmer’s resolve.

“I will not stop working around the clock to protect every single person in this state,” Whitmer said, according to Fox 2. “No matter who you are, where you come from, or political party you subscribe to.”
