The audacity of freshman congresswoman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) continues to astound.
As one of the first Muslim women to serve in Congress, you think that she would be falling over herself to denounce those who claim adherence to her religion and seek to kill the innocent in the name of Allah.
In addition to her continued attacks on Jewish Americans using age-old canards she knows full well are racist and highly offensive, she also thinks that the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, were simply that time “some people did something.”
And no, I’m not joking.
During her keynote address at a private fundraiser for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Southern California in March, Omar reduced the attack that took the lives of over 3,000 Americans to some sort of mere trivial “something” in defense of Muslim Americans.
Yeah, that’s a really, really bad defense of Muslim-Americans, Ilhan.
During her speech, she also encouraged the folks in attendance to “raise hell” and “make people uncomfortable.” Omar suggested that this is the answer to correct the way in which she believes Muslim-Americans have been treated like lesser citizens since 9/11.
The freshman Congresswoman said, “CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognize that some people did something, and then all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.” She provides no proof of this assertion and then continues in saying, “You can’t just say that today someone is looking at me strange, that I am going to try to make myself look pleasant. You have to say that person is looking at me strange, I am not comfortable with it. I am going to talk to them and ask them why.”
Further on in her speech she brazenly suggested President Trump is responsible for the deadly and violent mosque shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand in which two back-to-back shootings killed 50 people and wounded 50 more during prayer on Friday March 15th.
According to the Gateway Pundit, she said, “The reason I think that many of us knew that this was going to get worse is that we finally have a leader, a world leader in the White House, who publicly says Islam hates us; who fuels hate against Muslims; who thinks it is okay, that it’s okay to speak about a faith and a whole community in a way that is dehumanizing, vilifying, and doesn’t understand, or at least makes us want to think that he doesn’t understand, the consequences that his words might have.”
Let’s address the history of CAIR, of which she seems to be either entirely ignorant, or deliberately lying about. It was formed in 1994, in fact, not after 9/11, by Muslim Brotherhood’s “Palestine Committee” members Nihad Awad and Omar Ahmad, according to in depth reporting by Breitbart News. The organization has a questionable past in the United States.
“In 2007-8, CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the terror financing trial of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. That case, in turn, led the FBI to discontinue its work with the organization. In 2009, a federal judge ruled that the government “produced ample evidence to establish” the ties of CAIR with Hamas, the Palestinian terror organization. The United Arab Emirates labeled CAIR a terrorist organization in 2014 (a decision that the Obama administration opposed).”
In the short time that she has been in Washington D.C. she has caused no shortage of controversy with repeated anti-Semitic comments and use of anti-Jewish notions. It is encouraging to see that the resistance to her overt racism has been bipartisan.
In February, Omar, who is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, alleged GOP lawmakers are being bought and paid for by the pro-Israel advocacy group American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) to ensure GOP support.
Omar’s rhetoric is very inflammatory and dangerous. She suggests that any American who is pro-Israel actually holds an “allegiance to a foreign country.” This is a serious allegation for someone in a position to influence federal law, to be making against American citizens. Right now it is just “talk” but this perspective has the ability to slowly creep into the minds of other Congress members if it is not kept in check. She has already apologized for accusing Israel of “evil doings” and “hypnotiz[ing] the world” in a 2012 tweet. She continues to maintain openly anti-Semitic and un-American views, however.
If Omar, and the left at large, would like to minimize animosity for Muslim-Americans, they’re propping up the wrong Muslim-American.
