A Christian YouTuber in Indonesia has been arrested for blasphemy over videos he filmed that were critical of the Islamic faith, which he left to follow Christ some years ago.

Muhammad Kace was arrested in Bali last week, according to Agus Andrianto, the head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, as reported by UCA News, a Catholic news agency following Asia.

Kace, himself a former Islamic cleric in West Java, is accused of having uploaded a video in which he insulted Islam and derided its founder Muhammad as having been “surrounded by devils and liars.”

Authorities found he had uploaded at least 400 videos which were insulting to Islam.

“Muhammad is unknown by God and is only known by his followers because he is surrounded by devils,” Kace allegedly declared in the offending clip.

The top Islamic clerical body in Indonesia, the Indonesian Ulema Council, told UCA News that there is a “clear” case against the former Muslim.

The nation’s religious affairs minister, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, also condemned his actions and claimed his words had been hate speech.

Kace taught at an Islamic boarding school and traveled to Mecca for the hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia three times before accepting Christ and being baptized in 2014.
