Judge Gives Burglar Slap On Wrist – Because She’s A Woman

If you do the crime, be prepared to do the time. That age old piece of wisdom helps most fully functioning adults stay on the straight and narrow. We can only assume prison isn’t much of a deterrent for others.

In any event, folks that commit crimes such as burglary can be looking at a lengthy stay in the big house. Of course, that doesn’t apply if you happen to be a woman that steps into this judge’s courtroom to face those charges.

Last year, Terry Remmer broke into a house in the UK. She was eventually tracked down and arrested, and she recently appeared in the courtroom of recorder judge Mark Lowe, QC, who apparently feels that the punishment shouldn’t fit the crime.

As Breitbart shares, Remmer was given a suspended sentence, but the judge was sure to tell her that she would be in prison if she “were a man.”

The defense was able to tug at the heartstrings, as it was pointed out that Remmer  “had turned to drugs after developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,” and that she was “deeply remorseful,” Breitbart notes.

Fair enough, but what about her multiple other convictions for theft and shoplifting?

“The gravity is that if you were a man you would be going to prison today,” Lowe said. “But I have to take into account not only your welfare but the welfare of your child.”

That’s great that Lowe is considering the welfare of the child and all, since Remmer obviously isn’t too concerned with it by putting herself in such precarious situations. She’s received a suspended sentence. Perhaps her child would be better off if she was in the slammer where she belongs.
