Lawmakers Urge HHS to Reinstate Trump-Era Restrictions on Funding for Fetal Tissue Research, Oversight Board

Republican lawmakers have issued a letter to the Biden administration’s Department of Health and Human Services urging Secretary Xavier Becerra to reinstate a ban on federal funding for intramural research involving tissue from aborted fetuses as well as an oversight board which had the power to block funding to any projects it deemed unethical.

In April, under the direction of President Joe Biden, the HHS reversed the Trump-era policies and announced the board would not be reconvening.

This paved the way for federal funds to be freely provided for research using the harvested body parts of electively aborted human babies, including recent sick and twisted experimentation in which baby’s scalps were grafted on to the skin of lab rodents to create so-called “humanized mice.”

Over 130 Republican lawmakers from the House and Senate signed a letter led by Sens. Roger Wicker and (MS) Vicky Hartzler (MO) and Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO).

“The EAB provided critical ethical review of extramural research grant applications and its removal will assuredly reduce accountability and transparency in the use of tax dollars for ethically fraught research,” the letter read.

“In addition, the recent decision to let federal researchers obtain, use, and store for intramural research the body parts of unborn children violently killed through abortion is deeply troubling,” it continued. “Americans deserve better stewardship of their tax dollars than research that exploits the remains of aborted infants.”

Indeed, as The Federalist recently detailed, the news that the Biden administration was lifting restrictions on the use of federal funds for fetal tissue research came in the wake of some disgusting revealtions about the practice.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, they note, “bought organs such as livers, brains, and eyeballs of dismembered babies for hundreds of dollars apiece from Advanced Bioscience Resources, one of the country’s largest fetal tissue trafficking firms. Firms such as Advanced Bioscience Resources work as the middleman between the federal government and Planned Parenthood, the country’s largest abortion provider.”

Sound familiar? This the kind of practice that the Center for Medical Progress’ David Daleiden has worked for years to expose in the abortion industry, and your tax dollars are now going towards the procurement of aborted fetal tissue in the name of “science.”

The Federalist explains that “The FDA pays $2,000 per individual baby, adding up to $12,000 per box of harvested organs” as well as “requested late-term aborted babies, buying body parts from children up 24 weeks old.”

Last week, we wrote about a baby born at just 21 weeks who just celebrated his first birthday. These are the remains of fetuses who would be viable outside the womb — yet a baby is human at every single stage of development.

This is exactly why the only moral solution to abortion is to end it as a practice entirely. It cannot be justified and regulated — see what happens when this is the case? It is not enough to simply limit abortion to certain cases, because any justification for ending a life in the womb can easily warp into the twisted justification of harvesting the remains of electively aborted fetuses to “save lives” through research.

The only way to rip society off the slippery slope of immorality and death down which we are headed is to end abortion, completely, once and for all.
