Levelland, Texas Becomes 30th “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” In the Nation

On Monday, the city council of Levelland, Texas voted unanimously to become the latest “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” in the state as well as the 30th nationwide.

All four members of the council voted in favor of the ordinance, which makes abortion illegal within city limits.

“It shall be unlawful for any person to procure or perform an abortion of any type and at any stage of pregnancy in the City of Levelland, Texas,” the ordinance states, according to The Epoch Times.

“It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly aid or abet an abortion that occurs in the City of Levelland, Texas,” it also reads.

Councilwoman Mary Engledow called the passage of the sanctuary ordinance a “great day” for her city, which had been “long overdue.”

“Levelland is truly Blessed and by passing ‘Sanctuary City for the Unborn’ we will remain blessed,” she said.

Mark Lee Dickson of Right to Life East Texas, who has spearheaded the state’s Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn initiative, declared Levelland’s ordinance, which he said was two years in the making, was “a victory for the unborn.”

“I am very grateful for Kati Morris and the many women who are residents of Levelland who came forward during this time and have shared with me those heart-wrenching stories of what they have gone through,” he told Life News. “This vote tonight is not just a victory for the unborn, but a victory for those mothers as well.”

He said that the movement, which has expanded beyond Texas into Nebraska and just recently, a city in Ohio, is growing.

“There is much interest to see abortion outlawed in several cities across Texas including great cities like Centerville, Shenandoah, Dickinson, San Angelo and Tyler,” Dickson told Life News. “Abortion should be outlawed in all of our communities for this simple reason: Abortion hurts children and their mothers.”
