A British man who underwent plastic surgery on his genitals as part of a gender transition is now suing the UK’s National Health Services which he claims pressured him into the operation.
In June, Ritchie Herron detailed his experience in a Twitter thread which ultimately went viral.
“I want to tell everyone what they took from us, what irreversible really means, and what that reality looks like for us,” he wrote. “No one told me any of what I’m going to tell you now.”
I want to tell everyone what they took from us, what irreversible really means, and what that reality looks like for us.
No one told me any of what I’m going to tell you now.

What no one told him, he went on to explain, was what he was getting himself into when he underwent a vaginoplasty under the advice of a gender clinic in Newcastle, England after repeatedly turning down the suggestion in 2015 and 2017.
Although Herron had concerns at the time, he says he was told that his rejection of the surgery would mean being discharged from the clinic, which he believed also meant he would no longer receive the therapy services he valued, The Christian Post recently reported.
Herron told The Daily Mail in an interview that his doctors “failed to identify red flags and change direction.”
When he finally went under the knife in 2018, he remembers his first thought following the operation was, “Oh God, what have I done.”
He now says the operation was “the biggest mistake of his life.”
Now, he plans to take action against the NHS over the physiological complications he has suffered, which include difficulty urinating, numbness, and infertility — as well as the failure of the surgery to alleviate psychological conditions, as he was told it would.
Herron’s attorney told the Mail that his client suffers “a lifetime of medical care and consequences” that “cannot be put back together again.”
They hope his will be the first of many such lawsuits against the public health entity, which has been at the center of the debate over so-called “gender-affirming” medical treatments.
