#MeToo Legal Fund Refuses To Help Biden’s Accuser Over Threat To Nonprofit Status

A prominent legal fund in the #MeToo movement has denied assistance to a woman accusing Joe Biden of sexual assault in 1993.

“It happened all at once, and then … his hands were on me and underneath my clothes,” recalled Tara Reade, a former Biden staffer during his time as a Delaware senator, in an interview with podcast host Katie Halper last week.

“He said ‘come on, man, I heard you liked me,’” Reade continued. “For me, it was like, everything shattered … I wanted to be a senator; I didn’t want to sleep with one.”

According to The Intercept, The Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, a non-profit organization set up within the nonprofit National Women’s Law Center, expressed interest at first in taking Tara Reade’s case against Biden.

After discussions within the organization, however, Reade says she was declined help because Biden’s presidential candidacy could threaten the organization’s nonprofit tax status.

“As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the National Women’s Law Center is restricted in how it can spend its funds, including restrictions that pertain to candidates running for election,” NWLC spokeswoman Maria Patrick told The Intercept. “Our decision on whether or not to provide certain types of support to an individual should not be interpreted as our validation or doubt of the truthfulness of the person’s statements. Regardless, our support of workers who come forward regarding workplace sexual harassment remains unwavering.”

The Intercept ran this by Ellen Aprill, a Loyola Law School in Los Angeles tax-law professor.

“As a legal matter, if the group is clear regarding the criteria used as to whom it is taking to court, show that these are long-established neutral criteria, and they are being applied to individuals completely independent of their running for office, it would not be a violation of tax law. Groups are allowed to continue to do what they have always done,” Aprill said.

The Intercept also noted that Time’s Up is a client of SKDKnickerbocker, a public relations firm “whose managing director, Anita Dunn, is the top adviser to Biden’s presidential campaign.”

Several outlets, including The Guardian and Fox News, have noted that the Biden campaign and the liberal media at large have utterly ignored Reade’s accusations.

Are we really surprised? The left loves to chant “believe all women,” but we know this policy is readily suspended when it’s a favored Democrat politician in the crosshairs.

Accusations made against President Donald Trump during his presidential campaign are still on the lips of Democrats today. Shouldn’t Biden be held to a commensurate amount of scrutiny?
