Middle School Students Shown Pro-Gay Video Behind Parents’ Backs

A Christian father in West Virginia says his 13-year-old daughter was shown a pro-gay suicide prevention video in homeroom by a teacher who told the students not to tell their parents.

Rich Penkoski was very concerned when his daughter came home and told her father about the video her teacher had played, and that she’d been instructed not to tell her parents.

The school says that the teacher, Jackie Coffin, did not receive approval from the school to play the video, and was supposed to play a different, pre-approved video instead. She denies telling the students not to tell their parents, however.

The school issued a statement which was emailed to the Christian Post:

“Mountain Ridge Middle School administration approved a suicide prevention video that was shown in homeroom earlier this week. A second video was brought to the attention of the teacher by her students, and without negative intent, the video was shown. The second video contained unapproved content that some may find offensive.

“Mountain Ridge Middle School is committed to its students and their families and thanks Mr. Penkoski for bringing this to our attention. School administration is evaluating this incident and taking steps to prevent a similar occurrence in the future.”

The video, made by hip-hop artist Logic, depicts a young man struggling with homosexuality and rejection from parents and peers. The song and video are called 1-800-273-8255, which is the number for a suicide prevention line. Towards the end of the video, the young man is seen contemplating suicide but calls the prevention line instead. He ends up living happily ever after–with a gay marriage and adoption to boot.

This is certainly very offensive to any parents or students who do not agree with the worldview the video put out. The video was also completely inappropriate to show to Middle School students, as it depicted two high-school-age boys in bed together, as well as a sex toy which was placed in the protagonist’s locker.

“If she is going to show this [kind of] video in school, it should be like sex-ed where they have an opt-out form where I can choose to opt my children out of that,” Penkoski explained. “I wasn’t given a choice here. I had no option.”

“There are two issues with this,” he continued. “No. 1 is the teacher telling my daughter to not run home and tell your parents. I need to know and I think most parents feel the same way,” he continued. “As far as the video goes, I do think showing two boys in bed — granted you didn’t see the sex scene — and having the [sex toy] thing going on after that is completely inappropriate. The anti-suicide part is not the issue here. It’s a pro-gay video and an educator is doing this without approval from her higher-ups. As a parent, I have a right to know what is being taught to my children in school.”

Credit must be given to Penkoski and his daughter, Arianna, who had the good sense to stop watching the video and tell her father when she got home what had happened.

“At first when I saw it and I was watching it, I thought, ‘That is weird and I don’t want to watch it anymore.’ So I just stopped watching it and began reading my book,'” she days of the incident.

Penkoshi, who manages the Warriors for Christ online ministry, has clearly taught his daughter well! Let this be a lesson to all of us to train up our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6), but to also make our voices known that showing this kind of material to our children is NOT OK.

We cannot sit idly by while our culture becomes so warped and distorted, that not only is showing pro-gay propaganda to children acceptable but highly sexually suggestive content as well.
