You might think the title of this article is a bit sensationalistic, but you haven’t yet heard what this proud practicing lesbian Methodist Bishop thinks about the Son of God.
Dr. Karen Oliveto, who in the past has officiated several same-sex weddings as well as taken to social media with a sad face and a “We Are All Muslims” sign, recently made some highly inflammatory and flamingly heretical claims about the sinless Savior of all mankind.
When poorly explaining the passage in Matthew 15 where a Canaanite woman begs Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter, rather than teach one of the many commonly understood reasons why Jesus would have initially denied the woman’s request, she claims that He was simply hindered by his own prejudices.
In a now-deleted Facebook post that the American Family Association was able to keep a digital copy of, Dr. Oliveto shared how, in her twisted eisegesis, Jesus “comes around,” as He “didn’t have his life figured out.” She explains how the perfect Lamb of God was “growing, maturing, putting the pieces together about who he was and what he was supposed to do.” He was “like a hunk of clay, forming and reforming himself in relation to God.”
For the record, the Methodist Church does maintain the doctrine of the Trinity, meaning they believe that God is Triune. So in Dr. Olivet’s eyes, this confused, youthful, bigoted and prejudiced Jesus was, in fact, also God incarnate, although God only knows if she even believes in the Trinity.
“If Jesus can change, if he can give up his bigotries and prejudices, if he can realize that he had made his life too small, and if, in this realization, he grew closer to others and closer to God, than so can we,” she concludes, in her heartwarming lesson on how wrong and narrow-minded the Son of God Himself once was.
It’s amazing that this woman has a doctorate, and one cringes to think that it might be in theology. The Bible is clear that Jesus was sinless, not some hunk of clay waiting to be molded:
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin that in him we might become the righteousness of God” 2 Corinthians 5:21
He also was not unclear about Who He was and what He came to earth to do:
“Jesus saith unto him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.’” John 14:6
He also didn’t beat around the bush about His divinity:
“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I AM!”
Dr. Oliveto’s theology is incredibly twisted. She might simply be sorely mistaken, but it is actually more likely that she knows exactly what she is doing, and knows how much worldly people with little understanding of basic Christian theology will lap this stuff up.
The left loves to try to use our religion against us, and they use a hippie-dippie, “tolerant” idea of Jesus to do this. Dr. Olivet is taking this a step further by painting Jesus as a bigoted, privileged Christian male who just needed to conform His ideas to those of Dr. Olivet’s.
She is the perfect embodiment of a verse from one of the most well-known passages on homosexuality in the Bible, Romans 1:
“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.” Romans 1:21-22 NIV
