The nonviolent, atheist pro-life activist and founder of the organization Rehumanize International is just the latest activist to be charged under the federal FACE Act related to his advocacy for the unborn.
President Joe Biden’s federal government has been roundly accused by conservatives of being used as a political weapon against pro-life activists at a time when abortion is one of the most critical political issues in state governments and Washington D.C. following this summer’s Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v Wade.
Herb Geraghty spoke out about his arrest in a series of tweets this week, rebuking the Biden administration for its use of the federal law enforcement apparatus as a “weapon against political dissidents.”
“This past weekend I learned I was indicted on charges related to nonviolent pro-life advocacy,” he wrote. “Much has already been said about the unjust and political nature of the recent arrests and charges brought against myself and other pro-life activists and leaders. It is clear that the Biden administration intends to use the DOJ as a weapon against political dissidents.”

Geraghty currently serves as the executive director for Rehumanize, non-sectarian, non-partisan organization that seeks to promote collaboration for its “consistent life ethic,” between organizations across ideological movements.
He was indicted on October 14 over an alleged attempt to form a blockade outside a Washington D.C. abortion center and along with several other pro-life defendants, having “forcefully entered the clinic and set about blockading two clinic doors using their bodies, furniture, chains and ropes,” according to the Department of Justice press release.
He is just one of at least 22 pro-life activists currently facing charges under FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic) Act, and is looking at up to 11 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $260,000 fine if convicted, The Daily Wire noted.
“Thank you to those who are speaking up in our defense and calling for justice,” Geraghty wrote to his followers on Monday. “However, as you do that please never lose sight of the fact that no matter what the state does to me or the other defendants — it will never compare to what they allow abortionists to do to children.”
“The unborn babies still being killed every day in this country, despite the Dobbs decision, are the real victims,” he explained, referencing the Supreme Court decision Hobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned Roe, paving the way for several states to pass near or full abortion bans. Both before and after the decision, meanwhile, several other states moved quickly to codify abortion access into state law.
“These children do not even get a trial before they are put to death. As you pray and demand justice for us, do NOT stop working for justice for them,” he activist urged the pro-life community.
“If convicted, I am facing up to 11 years in federal prison,” Geraghty noted. “That is obviously terrifying. However, 11 years is nothing compared to having your life snuffed out before you are even old enough to take your first steps or speak your first words.”
“Solidarity forever with nonviolent political prisoners and targets of the state. Solidarity forever with the unborn victims of state sanctioned violence,” he concluded powerfully.
Earlier this month, two pro-life activists’ homes were raided by federal agents in relation to FACE charges they face in multiple similar alleged incidents while engaged in anti-abortion activism.
