A North Carolina preschool teacher has resigned after using a set of LGBT “pride” themed flashcards to teach colors without the approval of the school.
One of the cards in question, for the color “white,” included an illustration of a pregnant man.
Republican state House Speaker Tim Moore sounded the alarm over the flashcards, which were used by a teacher at Ballentine Elementary School. Rep. Moore said that a constituent of his colleague Rep. Erin Paré emailed photos of the flashcards.

The Epoch Times reported that they appeared to be part of a 12-card set called “Progress Pride Flag Rainbow Families” which is meant to teach children the meaning of each of the colors in the updated “Pride” flag.
The flashcards are available on BuyUsBox.com, which describes them as “custom-designed illustrations celebrate LGBT2SQ+ Families of diverse races, ages, sexualities, genders, and abilities.”
The school principal confirmed to Moore that the cards had been used and Wake County Public School System stressed that they were not part of the school curriculum and that they were an “inappropriate instructional resource.”
“An initial review determined that flashcards were not tied to the district’s Pre-K curriculum, did not complement, enrich or extend the curriculum and were used without the principal’s review, knowledge and/or approval,” the school district said through a spokesperson.
The district also confirmed that the teacher who used the flashcards has resigned.
