The crazy train of “gender theory” is chugging right along, showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
In New York City, the certifiably insane notion that any individual can simply ignore their biology and choose their own gender (or invent one, why not?) is now enshrined in public school policy.
Last month, in celebration of the leftist holy season, “Pride Month,” Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza announced a sweeping policy change to allow for transgender “affirmation” in registered names, dress codes, bathrooms, locker rooms, and athletics.
“Schools are safe havens for students to develop their passions and discover their true identities, and these new guidelines celebrate and affirm all students,” Carranza declared in a statement released by the city’s Department of Education (DOE) announcing the radical policy change.
Under the new guidelines, families in every NYC school district can simply submit their “name and gender change request form” and have every bit of data the school has on their child (such as report cards, diplomas, and even official enrollment numbers) will be updated to match whatever gender the student decides suits their fancy at that moment.
This sounds like an absolute nightmare for whoever is tasked with processing all of this data, to say the very least.
Believe it or not, the guidelines get worse.
Not only will students’ self-identities be affirmed in school documents and data, now even dress codes will be changed to accommodate transgender people.
“School dress codes must be… free of gender stereotypes and must be written, enforced, and applied equally to all students regardless of gender,” the statement continues, in order to “ease the trauma that can be unintentionally inflicted on girls, trans, and gender-nonconforming youth, particularly youth of color, by the uneven application and enforcement of dress codes.”
Being made to wear a skirt if you are a girl or pants if you are a boy is traumatizing? What an abuse of the word!
Of course, the worst aspects of the new guidelines will assuredly cause legitimate trauma—that is, the erasure of the separation of boys’ and girls’ sex ed classes and sports teams.
Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins reports for LifeSite News:
Divided sex ed into boys’ and girls’ classes also will be a thing of the past, since the city thinks “puberty education classes must be inclusive and affirming to all genders, gender identities, and sexual orientations.” And, as a part of everything, teachers and students will be expected to use language and pronouns that ignore biological realities. When it comes to sports, the College Fix points out, “generally” students must be permitted to compete “with the gender identity they assert at school.” All in all, it adds up to one of the most shocking roll-outs of transgender ideology in any school district nationwide.
In other words, NYC public schools will now be required to teach co-ed sex education classes, locker rooms will no longer have any meaningful gender separation, and, as a result, children will no longer be safe within their walls.
“With this updated policy, which allows students to change their name and gender on school records without legal documentation, we are signaling our support for all students regardless of gender identity,” City Council Speaker Corey Johnson said, according to the DOE’s statement.
What a bald-faced lie. By granting these liberties to transgender students, this is a brazen show of refusal to support non-transgender students in their right to use a bathroom or locker room away from the presence of someone of the opposite sex.
The LGBT agenda has never been about equal rights or peaceful coexistence. These people aren’t satisfied to simply discourage legitimate bullying of students suffering from gender dysphoria. They want their mental illness to be celebrated, affirmed, and protected by official policy.
We must stand up and send a clear message to school districts nationwide that policies like this are dangerous and unacceptable.
No one else will fight for the safety of our children. It’s up to us, and the time is now.
