The thing that is most baffling about the pro-illegal immigrant argument is that it is, at its core, an argument to simply let people break the law. Sanctuary cities (or in the case of California, states) refuse to turn over illegal immigrants to immigration authorities when detained for other crimes.
This means, quite literally, that law enforcement officers in sanctuary cities actively interfere with immigration agents’ ability to enforce the law.
A recent case in New York gives us the perfect example of how incredibly dangerous this is.
ICE officials in New York City recently tracked down and detained an illegal immigrant who had been arrested and released on bond at least three times by NYPD.
21-year-old Gurnam Singh is an Indian national who has pending charges for assault, forcible touching, sexual abuse and harassment, ICE says.
When he was recently arrested on September 6th, the Daily Caller reports that “ICE lodged an immigration detainer and an administrative arrest warrant with Queens Central Booking. Jail officials ignored the request, and Singh was released on bond until immigration officers tracked down and arrested him in the Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens last week, according to ICE.”
Singh is one of five criminal illegal immigrants (but I repeat myself) who had such a retainer on them when arrested that was ignored by NYPD.
“At-large criminal alien arrests are among the most dangerous types of enforcement actions ICE officers are engaged in on a daily basis,” Thomas Decker, the field office director for ICE removal operations in New York, said in a statement. “These arrests also represent the greatest risk to the community. This level of unnecessary risk can be mitigated in many instances.”
Attorney General Jeff Sessions has criticized the policies of Democrat-run cities such as New York City and Chicago and has threatened to withhold federal funding for cities that refuse to cooperate with ICE.
When conservatives say that liberalism is a mental disorder it doesn’t even seem to be hyperbolic anymore. How out of touch with reality do you have to be to order that your law enforcement officers ignore a blatant crime–entering or remaining in the US illegally? Their job is to uphold the law and the constitution of the United States and yet their mayors and governors tell them to disregard such a basic crime?
If someone has no respect for the immigration laws of our country, it doesn’t take much imagination (or research) to assert that they most likely do not respect the law.
We live in a fallen world and even if there were no illegal immigrants in the US at all, we would still have crime, certainly. But by indiscriminately allowing people to continue to live here, unmolested, as they actively break US immigration law is psychotic.
All it would take would be for local police departments to be allowed to assist do their job, and we could eliminate the chance of more sex predators being released on the street. Our tax dollars are used to support both local police departments and ICE, is it too much to ask that these funds are used for what they’re designated for–to uphold the law?
