An Illinois Office Depot refused to fill an order to print 500 flyers which were critical of Planned Parenthood, citing perceived “persecution” of those who support abortion.
Maria Goldstein told The Daily Caller News Foundation that the office supply giant would not print the flyers, which listed facts about the nationwide abortion provider.
The flyers made no mention of individuals and its only call to action was to pray for the “conversion” and “enlightenment” of those who enable and support Planned Parenthood’s business.
“When I tell people they’re shocked because this is America,” Goldstein told the DCNF. “Office Depot is trying to silence my freedom of speech and my freedom of religion.”
An Office Depot employee told her that it would be against corporate policy to print the flyers, so Goldstein is now working with the religious liberty law firm Thomas More Society, which has issued a letter to the company demanding the discrimination against Goldstein cease.
Office Depot had not responded to Goldstein or her lawyers as of DCNF’s publishing, but a spokesperson for the company told the Chicago Tribune that the flyers amounted to “persecution.”
“The flier contained material that advocates the persecution of people who support abortion rights,” spokeswoman Karen Denning told the newspaper.
“This seems crazy,” the Thomas More Society’s Tom Olp told the DCNF. “To say that a prayer that calls for conversion and understanding and enlightenment is persecution, to call that persecution to me is the height of intolerance.”
But don’t take our word for it — read the full flyer below and decide for yourself if you think this amounts to “persecution.”
