Oregon Gov. Says Proof of Vaccination Required to Enter Businesses, Churches Without Mask

Oregon’s Democrat Governor Kate Brown has determined that residents must brandish proof of vaccination in order to be allowed entry into businesses and churches without a mask on.

In May, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) issued guidelines that state that while those who are fully vaccinated may forsake the mask in most public settings, businesses and other establishments may simply require masks if they do not wish to ask for proof of vaccination, CBN reports.

As you can imagine, the stiff guidelines are raising concerns that many have had since the start of the pandemic that measures to stop the spread of the virus may be overlapping on residents’ constitutional rights.

The Freedom Foundation issued Governor Brown objecting to her Vaccine ID Mandate on behalf of Oregonians who are concerned about their businesses and personal privacy.

The group argued that the government cannot “place an undue burden on individuals’ privacy by forcing them to disclose their private medical information.”

However, as the group explained, the mandate forces an individual to show proof of vaccination which includes sensitive information such as their birthdate and name and personal healthcare details and poses “a serious risk that personally identifying private information could be misused.”

“Further, the disclosure tends to undermine the relationship between patient and healthcare provider since there is a presumption that such information will remain private. Finally, there are no safeguards in the Mandate that would prevent unauthorized disclosure or misuse of the private information individuals are forced to disclose” it continues.

“For these reasons, the Vaccine ID Mandate places an undue burden on the right of privacy of the individuals who are forced to disclose their private information.”

Oregon counsel for the Freedom Foundation, Rebekah Millard, concluded by urging Governor to “immediately rescind the Vaccine ID Mandate and seek to find alternative ways to promote health for all Oregonians. Alternatively, I ask that you provide a response to this letter and an explanation of the significant governmental interests that are furthered by the Vaccine ID Mandate.”

Legal non-profit Liberty Counsel also objected to the mandate, which it says takes a major step towards the very serious loss of important freedoms.

“Digital health or vaccine passports along with tracking and tracing apps present a serious threat to freedom,” the group’s founder and chairman Mat Staver said, according to CBN.

“Vaccine passports and tracking apps are about collecting data and control. COVID is being used to advance this dangerous threat to freedom. We must never accept vaccine passports or tracking apps as the new normal. If we do, it will be the end of freedom.”
