While many parents are weighing their options for their children’s education in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a disturbing peek into just what their children will learn—even through at-home distance learning—has more families than ever considering withdrawing their children and homeschooling outright.
Over the weekend, a Philadelphia teacher inadvertently convinced countless parents to pull their kids and homeschool after he lamented in a Twitter thread that parental access to kids during Zoom classes could “damage” discussions between teachers and students about gender and sexuality.
The teacher is Matthew R. Kay, who, according to The Daily Wire, is a founding teacher at Science Leadership Academy (SLA), a partnership high school between the School District of Philadelphia and The Franklin Institute.
In his controversial tweets, Kay wrote:
So, this fall, virtual class discussions will have many potential spectators — parents, siblings, etc. — in the same room. We’ll never be quite sure who is overhearing the discourse. What does this do for our equity/inclusion work?
How much have students depended on the (somewhat) secure barriers of our physical classrooms to encourage vulnerability? How many of us have installed some version of “what happens here stays here” to help this?
While conversations about race are in my wheelhouse, and remain a concern in this no-walls environment — I am most intrigued by the damage that “helicopter/snowplow” parents can do in honest conversations about gender/sexuality …
And while “conservative” parents are my chief concern — I know that the damage can come from the left too. If we are engaged in the messy work of destabilizing a kids racism or homophobia or transphobia — how much do we want their classmates’ parents piling on?
Why shouldn't parents hear your "discourse". @MattRKay is hiding comments, he will not be able to hide this one.

After Kay’s tweets were shared in understandable disgust by countless individuals, he promptly set his Twitter account to private.
What’s more frightening than Kay’s tweets are the supportive reactions he received from other teachers—with some even saying they plan to use Zoom’s chat function in order to facilitate secret conversations on gender ideology with students.
Some of the responses are worse than the original tweet. Here's a teacher referring to parents as "outsiders." This is terrifying stuff. pic.twitter.com/Alz0j8bpCi

Look at how they're plotting to hide what they teach to kids. Parents, pay attention to your kids. pic.twitter.com/2QCeLJMEg8

To date, the situation has not developed and Kay appears not to have been subjected to any disciplinary action by the school.
If you happen to be the parent of a child at SLA, reach out to them and demand that your student be given a decent education, not a secret indoctrination into radical social ideology.
Our children do not belong to teachers like Kay to be molded into the ideal member of a woke society. They are ours to raise up to the glory of God. If your child’s school is interfering with that, it may be time for some hard decisions.
