A pastor who confessed to his congregation that he had an adulterous affair over two decades prior was called out on the stage by a woman who revealed he had groomed her into a sexual affair when she was only 16.
The Daily Mail reported that Pastor John Lowe II of New Life Christian Church in Warsaw, Indiana was received well by his congregation when he confessed to the previous affair, until the “other woman” came up to the stage and revealed the full details of their relationship.
“For 27 years I lived in a prison… I lived in a prison of lies and shame. Lying to protect the Lowe family. For years I thought I was a horrible person, having suicidal thoughts and not realizing what had been truly done to me,” Bobi Gephart, now 43, told Lowe in front of the whole church.
“I would still be in a prison if my brother had not just approached me two weeks ago with what he had seen as a teenager that bothered him all these years: his pastor in bed with his younger sister,” she declared.
“I was just 16 when you took my virginity on your office floor. Do you remember that? I know you do,” she said to Lowe.
“You did things to to my teenage body that should have never been done. If you can’t admit the truth, you have to answer to God. You are not the victim here.”
Her husband, Nate, who had accompanied her on stage said “This is a lie. This is not just adultery.”
“It’s another level. It happened for nine years. When she was 15, 16, the grooming started.”
Nate returned a necklace his wife had been given by the church and a “purity ring” Lowe had given her during the affair, urging other women who had been given the same gifts by the church to return theirs as well.
At this point, Lowe was faced with angry cries from the congregants, who were outraged that he hadn’t revealed that his affair had been with a teenage girl.
“It was wrong. I can’t make it right. I can’t make it better. That’s just the way it is,” Lowe, who has children the same age as Gephart, said. “It’s not all true but it did happen, yes.”
The legal age of consent in Indiana is 16, so Lowe is unlikely to face criminal charges for the relationship.
He has, however, been removed from New Life and scrubbed from their website, the Mail noted.
