Planned Parenthood President Is Enraged Over Democrats’ Support For Pro-Life Candidates

President of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards responded with “rage” on Tuesday to an announcement by a Democratic fundraising chair who said the party would support pro-life candidates.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman and New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray Lujan said on Tuesday that the abortion issue “is not a litmus test for Democratic candidates.”

“As we look at candidates across the country, you need to make sure you have candidates that fit the district, that can win in these districts across America.”

Lujan said the party’s goal should be picking up as many seats as possible, which might require they support a candidate whose platform looks a little different than others.

Richards, however, is having none of it.

She tweeted about the announcement on Tuesday:

The responses from pro-life advocates were on point:

This isn’t the first time Democrats have been told they can’t be a Democrat if they’re not pro-abortion.

The Democratic National Committee’s Chairman, Tom Perez, made similar comments a few months back and received massive backlash.

“Every Democrat, like every American, should support a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her health,” Perez said in a statement. “That is not negotiable and should not change city by city or state by state.”

He continued:

“At a time when women’s rights are under assault from the White House, the Republican Congress, and in states across the country,” he added, “we must speak up for this principle as loudly as ever and with one voice.”

Uber-liberal actress Rosie O’Donnell called for women to form their own party following yesterday’s announcement.

As Republicans continue to work towards defunding Planned Parenthood in Congress, the debate on this issue will only continue.
