While the coronavirus pandemic rages on, Planned Parenthood is adapting to the new social landscape to make abortion accessible through telemedicine.
A Planned Parenthood official in New York State said the abortion giant’s new service is in such high demand that even mothers who wanted to keep their children are aborting them, including one who began the process “at home with her children running around behind her.”
According to the Associated Press, Dr. Meera Shah, chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic said the abortion chain is seeing “an uptick in patients seeking abortions” amid the pandemic.
“We provided a medication abortion to an EMT while she was sitting in her ambulance,” Shah said. “We provided abortion care to a mother who was at home with her children running around behind her.”
Acting President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson announced the organization’s new telehealth service, which will be available in all 50 states, this month:
Planned Parenthood has been here for more than a century, providing expert care and information to all people — no matter their income, ZIP code, background, identity, orientation, or immigration status.#COVID19 won’t change that. https://t.co/FGZjdsNpeK

According to Planned Parenthood, its telemedicine service will provide birth control, sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, transgender hormone therapy, HIV/AIDS antiviral drugs, and the morning-after pill, and all without the patient having to step inside a clinic.
Sarah Stoesz, CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States, told KARE11 that her organization is even offering curbside pickup for whatever drugs people have been prescribed.
“People can come to the clinic, just pull up to the door and we can come out and in a safe way hand them their birth control,” Stoesz said. “Or whatever it is that they need. So, they don’t have to come out at all.”
Dr. Jen Villavicencio, an abortionist in Michigan, told AP she is predicting that the pandemic will increase the demand for abortions.
“I hear it in my patient’s voices and questions daily,” she said. “They’re worried about how they will make their rent, feed their family, access a ventilator if the need arises.”
Alison Dreith, deputy director of an abortion clinic in Granite City, Illinois, noted that wore women follow through with their decision to end their child’s life than before the pandemic.
Normally, 50% go through with it, AP reports, but fears surrounding the coronavirus pandemic have pushed the rate up to 85%.
Hope Clinic staff member Hannah Dismer revealed that one couple decided to abort a child they had planned to conceive because the mother worried that giving birth at a hospital might expose her to the coronavirus and risk the health of the child they already have.
“It hit me really hard that she and her husband had to make that difficult decision,” Dismer said.
Dr. Anne Davis, an OB-GYN at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, said her office had seen a patient who had wanted to be pregnant but requested an abortion when it became clear her medical condition would require multiple hospital visits. The woman had received comparable treatment during her first pregnancy, Davis said, but decided to abort this child for fear of exposure to coronavirus during trips to the hospital.
AP also reports that closures of abortion clinics under coronavirus orders in states like Texas have pushed many women to simply drive or fly to other states for the procedure.
Dr. Allison Cowett of Family Planning Associates in Chicago said one recent patient, a teenager, drove all the way from Texas with her mother. In Atlanta, Dr. Marissa Lapedis said her clinic saw a woman who received her initial abortion consultation in Texas but flew to Georgia when the Texas ban postponed a second visit to receive the abortion pill.
Saints, it should shake us to our core to see the lengths to which people will go in order to exercise their supposed “right” to kill their unborn children.
Now, more than ever, this fallen world needs us to shine the light and preach the truth of the Gospel, the forgiveness of Christ toward repentant sinners, and God’s love for each and every human being he has fearfully and wonderfully made.
