Police have confirmed to local media that they received a list of 13 pro-life activists, complete with photos, birthdates, and social media posts ahead of a March for Life event in Lubbock, Texas on January 29 and 30.

The Lubbock Police Department told EverythingLubbock.com that the information was used in a strict law enforcement capacity. As of Friday, the outlet was awaiting a response to an open-records request to see if the list provided to police was used internally by LPD or if they had provided the results of their open-source search to Planned Parenthood.

The local conservative website Lubbock Lights received a statement from police last week which read:

Yesterday, you asked about a document referencing individuals associated with the March for Life protest on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021. After further review, the public information unit learned of a document produced by Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas and supplied to the Lubbock Police Department as part of communications prior to the protest. Chief Mitchell believes this is the document Scott was referring to as a “watch list.” This document included 13 individuals Planned Parenthood identified as living “in and around the city of Lubbock, while the others are the ‘big names’ who will be coming in and are listed as speakers at the rallies on Friday and Saturday.” Officers assigned to coordinate police operations surrounding the logistics of the march conducted a search using open source methods of the individuals and found that all were publicly associated with the March for Life, West Texas For Life or speakers expected at the events being hosted during the weekend’s events. LPD does not maintain lists of protesters identified as pro-life or pro-choice (via email to KCBD Investigates unit).

The website explained that the email from Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, in which the watch list was sent, tagged some of the names as “aggressive.” The abortion provider included images from social media and detailed information about the pro-life activists’ families and personal history.

“It’s a garish document which appears set to look like mug shots from a police line-up,” L. Scott Mann wrote in his piece on the list.

“This was an intelligence report produced by Planned Parenthood targeting innocent people, with what goal in mind, other than to create suspicion and doubt within the Lubbock community by demonizing its citizens, we really do not know or understand. The very format, with photo, date of birth and name suggests someone who ought to be, sorry chief, watched.”

Planned Parenthood, for its part, gave a vague statement to EverythingLubbock.com which essentially confirmed they had been responsible for providing the detailed intelligence list to police and cited an interest in the safety of their clinics and the women to whom they provide services.

“The safety of our patients and staff is our top priority. We continually implement security precautions which include communicating with law enforcement professionals prior to protests that require our health centers to close,” a spokesperson said.

“We will continue to implement all recommended safety protocols, especially during this time in our country when violence by extremists is occurring across the U.S.”

Mark Lee Dickson, whose name was included on the list, called the actions of Planned Parenthood “extremely disturbing” noting that the event that took place outside of one if its clinics posed no threat.

“The event which took place outside of Planned Parenthood in January was a peaceful event,” Dickson told EverythingLubbock.com. “If anyone deserves to be watched by the Lubbock Police Department, it is Planned Parenthood. They are the ones who have expressed a desire to murder innocent human beings by abortion in Lubbock, Texas.”

Dickson was a speaker at the March for Life and the organizer of a petition to turn Lubbock into a sanctuary city for the unborn. His drive led to a special election being called for May 1 of this year, “for an ordinance to outlaw abortion within the City of Lubbock, and to declare Lubbock a sanctuary city for the unborn.”
