POLL: Majority of Voters Across Political Spectrum Oppose Gender Surgeries, Drugs for Children

A majority of Americans that identify as Republican, Democrat, and Independent believe that minors should wait until adulthood to undergo so-called “gender affirming” surgeries and hormone drug protocols.

This comes as the issue of transgender children and sexuality education in schools is likely to play one of the major factors in how voters behave in the ballot box in this November’s critical midterm election.

According to polling conducted by the Convention of States Action in partnership with The Trafalgar Group and reported by Faithwire, 79% of respondents agreed that children should be required to wait until they are adults before manipulating their sex organs and hormones medically.

This included a full 53% of Democratic voters, who are faced with supporting candidates who often offer their full-throated support for gender transitioning for minors.

Republicans were the group of likely voters that most staunchly opposed the practice, with 97% believing children should be required to wait until they are of age to “transition.”

Meanwhile, 85% of Independents, the group to watch when it comes to tight partisan races, oppose transitioning for minors.

A strong 47% of Democrats support gender treatments for children, while just 15% of Independents and a scant 3% of Republicans do.

Convention of States Action President Mark Meckler noted that this data confirms that American voters are simply “not on board with the far left’s sexual agenda.”

“The idea that young people have to be 16 to drive, 18 to vote, and 21 to drink, and yet can undergo life-altering medical procedures in middle school defies common sense, and the American people see that clearly,” he said.

“As the Biden Administration refuses to do the right thing for our children and take action to protect them from the horrors of the far-left agenda, it’s imperative that individual states–like what we see happening in Tennessee right now–step up and stand against it.”

While a number of states like Tennessee, Arkansas, Arizona, and Florida have sought to ban transgender surgeries and drugs for minors, the Democratic Party has championed the cause.

In reliable deep-blue California, Governor Gavin Newsom has championed the establishment of a gender transition for children “sanctuary state” which would empower California courts to permit such treatments for a minor even when one parent might not consent.

In November, Michigan voters will vote on Proposition 3, which would make both abortions and gender treatments for minors a constitutional right, even when lacking parental consent.

President Joe Biden signed an executive order in June aimed at combating state restrictions on gender transition for minors and he recently made clear his stance on the issue when being interviewed by a transgender TikTok star the White House had invited to interview the president.

“I don’t think any state or anybody should have the right to do that. As a moral question or as a legal question, I just think it’s wrong,” Biden told Dylan Mulvaney as part of a NowThis News presidential forum, The New York Post reported.

“It’s really important that we continue to speak out about the basic fundamental rights of all human beings, and the idea, the idea, that was going on, you know, in some states — I won’t get into the politics of it, but, some states, it’s just — it’s outrageous, and I think it’s immoral,” he declared.
