Here’s the raw truth, people: if we don’t train up our children, the culture of death, sex, and immorality will gladly take our place.
The case of Caitlin Fink is a startlingly harsh example of this reality. When she first hit headlines back in May, Fink was not only a high school student in Stockton, California, she was a teenage porn star.
Fink’s story made national headlines when the fact that she works in the so-called “adult entertainment” industry became the subject of a controversial article in her school paper, The Bruin Voice.
The article, titled “Risky business: starting a career in the adult entertainment industry,” reads exactly how it sounds: a puff piece normalizing this girl’s tragic embrace of debauchery, up to and including the violation of her own body for cash.
The Lodi Unified School District attempted to stop the publication of the article, threatening termination of supervising faculty and even shutting down the school paper itself.
According to CBS13, lawyers ultimately got involved on behalf of The Bruin Voice and the district released a statement Friday saying it was “pleased that the process we have been engaged in regarding the Bear Creek High School newspaper has resulted in an article that meets legal requirements” for not publishing profanity in the school paper.
While the story itself may not describe particularly graphic or obscene content, it’s beyond upsetting that not a single adult tasked with educating or caring for Fink seems to want to step on her toes and redirect her away from this dangerous path. Instead, they seem to be more concerned with bad optics.
“I feel like the district sees it as a taboo thing that should be swept under the rug, but it’s really not a taboo topic. It’s just a topic that people don’t like to talk about because it makes them feel uncomfortable,” Fink told CBS13. “Adult entertainers aren’t just objects, they are actual people. They have feelings; they have goals; they have motivation.”
What a hideous situation! This young girl is clearly a victim of this wicked culture that tramples on sex, something our Creator designed to be enjoyed between one husband and one wife, and views it as a recreational activity or even a way to make a living.
Back in May, Fink told CBS13 that she has no plans to “slow down” and hopes to eventually become a model. She added that working in porn allows her to enjoy compliments about her looks.
“I like the positive attention I get from it,” she said. “Even though I know what their intentions are it’s still nice to know that they think that about me because I don’t believe it sometimes.”
At this time, it is unclear whether or not Fink ultimately graduated from high school. What is apparent, at least from her Facebook profile, is that Fink is now a stripper at a club in San Francisco called “Centerfolds.” How heartbreaking!
Fink also told The Stockton Record that a career in pornography is not “all fun and games.” She added that the toll her “work” takes on her body is substantial and that, “You can’t stay in [the industry] forever.”
What an indictment of our culture this poor girl’s story is. She should be a cautionary tale and, just a decade or so ago she would have been. Instead, this young woman has received nothing but affirmation, positive press, and encouragement to “live her best life,” even if it costs her soul.
Please be in prayer for this girl that the Lord would cause the scales to fall from her eyes and that she would realize she is fearfully and wonderfully made. He is mighty to save!
Meanwhile, we must continue to look to our own children. It is absolutely imperative that we raise them up in godliness and truth!
