Pro-Life Nun’s Medical License Restored Amid Legal Battle Over Her Refusal to Vaccinate

A Washington D.C. nun and medical practitioner has had her license restored amid an ongoing legal battle over her refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine, citing concerns over the use of fetal cells in the development of the inoculation.

Sister Deirdre Byrne, a trained surgeon, practicing physician, humanitarian, and pro-life activist who provides free medical services to impoverished communities in the capital is suing D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser after the city refused to grant her a religious exemption to the vaccine mandate.

Last month, she was informed that her medical license would be suspended as her request for an exemption was denied, The Christian Post reports, and so, represented by the Thomas More Society, Sister Deirdre has asked the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to deem the vaccine mandate to be a violation of her First Amendment rights.

Last week, the religious freedom law firm revealed on Facebook that Sister Deirdre’s license had been restored — but she and her attorneys are far from finished with seeking legal ramifications for what they say is a clear violation of her sacred religious liberties.

“So Sister Deirdre, the Mother Teresa of the District of Columbia, who’s devoted herself to providing free medical care to the needy, including surgeries that can save their lives, is now living with the Sword of Damocles hanging over her head, wielded by defendant Nesbitt,” attorney Christopher Ferrara told The Epoch Times.

“This is a woman who could have made a million dollars a year easily. Now, she’s a nun in a habit.”

Deirdre is an outspoken pro-life activist, whose stirring speech about the marginalization of the unborn at the 2020 Republican National Convention derided the Biden-Harris ticket as “the most anti-life presidential ticket ever.”
