Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) took a break from defending her antisemitism this week to demand that women powerlifters be forced to compete against biological males who identify as women.
The freshman Representative followed the lead of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, penning a letter to Powerlifting USA after their decision last month to prohibit biological males from competing in women’s events overseen by the weightlifting governing body.
Inspired by JayCee Cooper, a male weightlifter who identifies as a woman that resides in Omar’s district, the Congresswoman chided USA Powerlifting for discriminating against self-identified females based on the “myth” that they have a “direct competitive advantage” over biological women.
Clearly, Omar doesn’t do much powerlifting herself.
I am writing to express my concern over a recent decision by USA powerlifting to bar participation by my constituent, Ms. JayCee Cooper, because she is transgender.
Under the Minnesota Human Rights Act, discrimination against anyone based on their gender identity is illegal. This includes in public accommodations, and in Minnesota, organizations such as USA Powerlifting. In fact, just last month a Minnesota jury awarded Ms. Christina Ginther $20,000 after the Independent Women’s Football League refused to allow her to participate because she is transgender.
I urge you to reconsider this discriminatory, unscientific policy and follow the example of the International Olympic Committee. The myth that trans women have a “direct competitive advantage” is not supported by medical science, and it continues to stoke fear and violence against one of the most at-risk communities in the world.
While I do not have direct jurisdiction over this matter as a U.S. congresswoman, I’m sending this letter to Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison with a recommendation that he investigate this discriminatory behavior.
USA Powerlifting still allows biological women to compete in men’s events, as long as they adhere to the same standards for testosterone and other performance-enhancing drugs, which male-identifying females often use.
In their reasoning behind banning men from the women’s events, they wrote:
“Men naturally have a larger bone structure, higher bone density, stronger connective tissue and higher muscle density than women. These traits, even with reduced levels of testosterone do not go away. While [male-to-female athletes] may be weaker and less muscle than they once were, the biological benefits given them at birth still remain over that of a female.”
It is unbelievable that it even has to be stated that this is common sense. Ideology can change, medial “treatments” for transgenderism chan evolve, Ilhan Omar can write all the angry letters she wants to, our gender is determined by biology, and males are overwhelmingly stronger than women.
Like all female athletes, it is enormously unfair to bulldoze over the hard work and years of training, blood, sweat, and tears that female athletes put into the sports they love for the gender identity of a handful of gender-confused males.
Biological females are the ones facing discrimination, for the ideological disadvantage of being “cisgendered.”
Does no one care about “women’s rights” anymore?
