It is particularly fallacious that the pro-abortion camp often portrays attempts to restrict or completely ban the abortion procedures as misogynistic, incorrectly identifying the agenda as an attempt by “the patriarchy” to “control women’s bodies.”
In reality, legalized abortion is a misogynist’s dream. Not only does legal and socially acceptable abortion provide predatory men with a means of eliminating any possible “complications” from unattached, uncommitted sexual affairs, but those who value boys over girls also have a means of enforcing their sexism by snuffing out the lives of unwanted female babies.
In 2020, the United Nations Population Fund, which views sex-selective abortion as a practice along the lines of female genital mutilation and child marriage, stated in a report: “The preference for sons over daughters may be so pronounced in some societies that couples will go to great lengths to avoid giving birth to a girl or will fail to care for the health and well-being of a daughter they already have in favour of their son.”
Many have feared that sex-selective abortion could lead to skewed population imbalances between men and women.
“Skewed levels of the sex ratio at birth (SRB) due to sex-selective abortions have been observed in several countries since the 1970s,” an August 4 study published in BMJ Global Health stated. “They will lead to long-term sex imbalances in more than one-third of the world’s population with yet unknown social and economic impacts on affected countries.”
The study found that sex-selective abortions were present across a range of nations “from Southeast Europe to South and East Asia.”
In their report, the researchers concluded that “They lead to a hike in the sex ratio at birth (SRB; namely the ratio of male to female live births) above its natural (biological) level and to the emergence of a surplus of male births.”
Coupled with female mortality rates, sex-selective abortions are now considered to be a “major contributor” to the concept of “missing women,” a term used to describe a potential population with missing women.
This could ultimately subject women to violence and exploitation. Breitbart notes that they reported in 2015 that China’s high rates of sex-selective abortions have created a trafficking trade for Vietnamese wives who are sometimes kidnapped, drugged, or coerced into leaving their home and traveling to China where men pay good money for a wife.
“Fewer-than-expected females in a population could result in elevated levels of antisocial behaviour and violence, and may ultimately affect long-term stability and social sustainable development,” the report notes.
The sin of abortion is not only a crime against the small lives it destroys and dehumanizing to the women who bear them, but is being used to discriminate against female babies in the most unthinkable way.
What’s more, this could have a devastating impact on society as a whole. Pray for this horrific and immoral practice to be ended globally and for justice for those who have already been claimed as its victims.
