Satanic Temple Raffles Off Abortion Procedure to Protect “Rights” to “Religious Abortion Ritual”

Abortion is a satanic ritual.

We’ve said it for years—and The Satanic Temple (TST) is now heartily confirming it with a disgusting raffle in support of “reproductive rights,” claiming that state laws restricting abortion at any time are an infringement upon their First Amendment right to “religious abortion.”

“In accordance with the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), first trimester abortions are now exempt from unnecessary regulations for all individuals practicing The Satanic Temple’s religious abortion ritual,” declares the TST “reproductive rights” campaign page.

The goal, the raffle entry page explains, is to raise “$100,000 to mobilize legal operations in order to protect religious abortions from unwarranted government interference.”

For any number of a series of minimum donations to the organization, Satanists can enter to win an abortion paid for (up to $2,500), a Zoom meet-and-greet with TST co-founder Lucien Greaves, assorted TST merch, or a “religious abortion kit” consisting of a TST compact mirror and a ritual instruction sheet.

In order to win the grand prize—the free abortion—one must donate at least $200.

Explaining their view of abortion as a religious ritual, TST explains:

The Satanic abortion ritual provides spiritual comfort and affirms bodily autonomy, self-worth, and freedom from coercive forces with the affirmation of TST’s Seven Tenets. The ritual is not intended to convince a person to have an abortion. Instead, it sanctifies the abortion process by instilling confidence and protecting bodily rights when undergoing the safe and scientific procedure.

As a religious ritual, TST therefore claims exemption under the First Amendment and RFRA from the following state restrictions:

Mandatory waiting periods, the requirement that practitioners withhold certain medical information, compulsory counseling prior to abortion, required reading materials, medically unnecessary sonograms, mandatory listening to the fetal heartbeat, compulsory burial or cremation of fetal remains.

According to The Friendly Atheist, TST compares their abortion ritual to baptism and communion, arguing that “No Christian would accept a mandatory waiting period before they can partake in Communion. No Christian would tolerate a law that insists state counseling is necessary before someone can be baptized. Our members are justly entitled to religious liberty in order to practice our rituals as well.”

While TST’s attack on the unborn is abominable, to date they have seen little success claiming exemption from state abortion restrictions.

“So far, all of the Satanic Temple’s lawsuits against pro-life laws have failed,” Life News reports. “In June, a federal appeals court rejected their latest attempt at challenging Missouri’s informed consent law. In 2019, the Missouri Supreme Court dismissed another one of the Satanic Temple’s lawsuits. But every time they lose, they try again with a new approach.”
