Pro-abortion progressives were fawning over an SNL skit featuring “Goober the Clown” who shared how abortion enabled her to pursue her dreams of becoming a clown, but the pro-life community was conversely shocked at the very un-funny celebration of a procedure that ends the life of an unborn child.

The skit was part of the show’s “Weekend Update” and featured actress Cecily Strong as Goober, who spoke on the expertise that she’d had an abortion at the age of 23.

Writing for FaithWire, entertainment commentator Billy Hallowell noted that “The activistic purpose of the segment was clear from the outset, with ‘Weekend Update’ co-anchor Colin Jost beginning the peculiar bit by noting the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments last week on Texas’ controversial abortion law.”

Goober was there to speak on “clown abortion” concerns, an apparent effort to lighten up straightforward abortion advocacy.

“I wish I didn’t have to do this, because the abortion I had at 23 is my personal clown business, but that’s all some people in this country want to discuss all the time,” Goober declared. “Did you know one in three clowns will have a clown abortion in her lifetime? You don’t because they don’t tell you. They don’t even know how to talk to other clowns about it!”

“I know I wouldn’t be a clown on TV here today if weren’t for the abortion I had the day before my 23rd birthday,” she declared in conclusion.

Pro-abortion pundits were delighted, as Hallowell noted, from CNN’s Brian Stelter who penned an op-ed praising the “classic” skit and pointed to comments in Vanity Fair which had praised it as a “startlingly effective bit of political commentary.”

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio, meanwhile, praised the bit as “honest and powerful.”

Of course, in the pro-life community, the response was very different.

“The nation is in need of serious prayer — and this is merely our most recent reminder,” Hallowell noted.

Amen to that.
