Taxpayer-Funded Abortions In Minnesota Reached An All-Time High In 2019

Minnesota taxpayers were compelled to pay for a record number of abortions in 2019, representing a steady increase over the years.

According to data just released by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the state reimbursed abortion practitioners $1.1 million for aborting 4,463 children. 2019 represents the eighth consecutive year in which Planned Parenthood, the state’s largest abortion provider, received an increasing number of state reimbursements for abortions, up five percent from 2018 and a staggering 222 percent since 2011.

In 2019, the nonprofit abortion chain received $642,736 for 2,791 abortions, a record in the state.

“Overall abortions in Minnesota have been level, yet tax-funded abortions keep rising as Planned Parenthood and others exploit the availability of this money to bolster their abortion numbers and revenue,” said Scott Fischbach, executive director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL). “Most people don’t support the use of their tax dollars for abortion. The destruction of unborn children isn’t a public good, and it’s not health care. Our lawmakers, governor, and courts must finally bring this harmful policy to an end.”

According to MCCL, public funding of elective abortions was prohibited under Minnesota law until a 1995 State Supreme Court decision required such funding through Minnesota’s Medicaid program. Taxpayers have paid the bill for about 95,000 abortions at roughly $28 million since then.

MCCL is doing its part to push a current bill that would ban taxpayer funding of abortion in Minnesota once more. The measure, H.F. 1099 and S.F. 1045, was written by Rep. Marion O’Neill (R-Maple Lake) and Sen. Jason Rarick (R-Pine City) and would, if signed into law and challenged in court, allow the high court to revisit and overturn its 1995 decision. The bill states that “funding for state-sponsored health programs shall not be used for funding abortions, except to the extent necessary for continued participation in a federal program.”

There is plenty of research, including a literature review by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, showing that public funding of abortion directly correlates to an increase in abortions overall. This is the culture of death in numbers and statistics, folks. May the Lord grant this nation repentance for using its wealth to slaughter the unborn!
