With last year’s record-breaking government shutdown still fresh in the minds of the president and the many federal workers who were furloughed or forced to work without pay, a massive spending bill was quickly signed into law to avoid another political stalemate this year.
Although we trust that President Trump may have had the best intentions, we lament alongside Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) that the gargantuan spending bill, padded by lobbyists and foisted upon Congress “in the dead of night,” continues the taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, calls for studies on gun control, and fails to deliver on several other promises.
In a video shared to Twitter, Sen. Cruz rather theatrically lets his fellow Americans in on some of the key issues with the massive spending bill:
The spending bill the Senate is voting on tomorrow is lobbyist boondoggle that belongs in an ashtray. pic.twitter.com/fa9euZLMYQ

Cruz called the budget a “Christmas present” for the “lobbyists who are bankrupting this country.”
“While you were with your family, shopping for Christmas, the lobbyists were spending and spending,” Cruz said in the video of the massive stack of paper. “Nobody’s read it. There isn’t a person alive who has read this piece of garbage.”
Cruz outlined several items in the bill that were passed without a debate or a vote, such as a 7-year extension for the Export-Import bank. Cruz called the bank, which provides loans to promote the foreign purchases of U.S. goods, “one of the greatest corporate boondoggles – corporate welfare.”
The bill also includes a provision to raise the federal smoking age to 21. Cruz relentlessly criticized this, saying that an 18-year-old in America can be drafted into the military and be shot down by machine-gun fire, but “God help you if you want to have a smoke.”
The senator continued, noting that the spending bill also “funds government research on gun control,” which he called “bogus studies that are going to be used to take away your constitutional rights,” Cruz stated.
Cruz continued, denouncing the bill which he says continues tax breaks for “so-called” renewable energy, fails to stop sanctuary cities, fails to end Obamacare, and, worst of all, fails to defund Planned Parenthood once again.
Live Action pointed out that, since the spending deal fails to end Obamacare, its sex education program, known as PREP, will still receive $75 million, $3 million of which going to Planned Parenthood for its perverted programs:
Additionally, Planned Parenthood will continue to receive millions more through [Medicaid] reimbursements and discretionary funds. In their 2017 Annual Report, Planned Parenthood indicated that 34% of their revenue came from “Government Health Services Reimbursements & Grants.”
Congressional spending packages for FY2020 don’t include any provisions to further curb the millions of taxpayer dollars going to America’s abortion giant.
“This pile of trash,” Cruz said, closing his message, “belongs in an ashtray.”
Sen. Cruz further elaborated on the bill’s many problems in a statement after voting against it on Thursday.
“With a $23 trillion national debt, this 2,313-page spending package that Congressional leaders unveiled just days ago represents everything Americans hate about Washington,” Cruz said.
The statement continues:
Though there are several good provisions included in the final bills that I was proud to fight for, including a well-deserved pay raise for our men and women in uniform and additional support for our Armed Forces and veterans, this $1.4 trillion spending monstrosity plunges our nation even further into debt – haphazardly spending taxpayer dollars on the priorities of lobbyists and Democrats at the expense of the priorities of the American people, from funding Planned Parenthood, sanctuary cities, and Obamacare, to raising the tobacco purchasing age to 21.
“This ridiculous, rushed, end-of-year spending process, year after year, is an example of government of the lobbyists, by the lobbyists, and for the lobbyists,” Cruz concluded.
This is exactly the sort of thing we need to be holding our elected officials’ feet to the fire over, folks! We weren’t blessed with a representative government so we could sit out on the sidelines and watch our freedoms, and our tax dollars, be spent on plots to take away our rights, perverted sex-ed programs, and the murder of unborn children.
The last thing President Trump needs right now is to abandon the people relying on him to make good on his promises.
We cannot make America great again as long as we financially bankrupt ourselves with massive spending deficits continue and morally bankrupt ourselves by slaughtering millions of our own unborn children.
