Texas’ comptroller has confirmed that the drag bar which hosted a “Drag Your Kids to Pride” event for youngsters is set to be the subject of a state probe.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar confirmed in a statement last week that his office is in the process of “investigating this specific event.”
“Like many Texas parents, I was disturbed by the recent images showing children participating in a drag show in the Dallas area, including one image of a child placing money in a performer’s undergarment,” he said in a statement.
The video of the event, held June 5, went viral at the time as social media users were stunned to see a performer gyrating in a highly suggestive manner in front of a sign that read “it’s not gonna lick itself” while small children looked on.

“I know this is a concerning issue for many Texans, and the images circulating are certainly inconsistent with our Texas values,” Hegar also said in his statement. “Though my office does not typically comment on ongoing investigations, the recent public discussion surrounding this specific entity demands a response.”
He clarified that “my office had already begun the process of investigating this specific event, as well as working to determine if the establishment is liable for the Sexually Oriented Business Fee (SOBF) under Chapter 102 of the Business Code.”
Earlier this month, Rep. Bryan Slaton called on Hegar to address concerns surrounding drag shows for kids by enforcing existing law as he works with his colleagues to craft legislation.
Drag shows are no place for a child.
Today I’m calling in @Glenn_Hegar to do what he can to enforce existing law and protect Texas kids while I work with my colleagues in the Texas Legislature.

Slaton first committed to crafting legislation to address children at drag shows when the “family-friendly” drag show first received attention on social media.

I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either.

“Any business that allows kids to attend an event of a sexual nature should be held accountable, and I am proud of Glenn Hegar for taking steps in that direction,” Slaton said in response to Hegar’s announcement. “Like many Texans, I am eagerly awaiting the results of his investigation. I will continue working toward passing legislation to ensure children are never again subjected to these events.”
