As America continues to reel from the violent protests sparked by the death of George Floyd, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick offered the only solution to racism and unrest: national repentance.
“We have racism in this country, Shannon,” Patrick told Fox News @ Night host Shannon Bream on Wednesday. “But it’s really an issue of love. It’s loving God. You cannot love your fellow man, if you don’t love God — and we have a country where we’ve been working really hard, particularly on the left, to kick God out.”
“We need a culture change to address this racism. You cannot change the culture of a country until you change the character of mankind,” Patrick continued.
Patrick touched on the tragic death of George Floyd, calling it a “crime.”
“The crime against George Floyd, in my view, was a crime against all black America and against humanity and we’re coming together,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of healing to do and we can’t do it unless we turn to God and we need to do that now more than ever.”
Patrick added that bad police officers, whether racist or simply violent or incompetent, “need to be drummed out.”
“This guy [former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin] has a bad record [from] before, still should not have been a police officer,” he said. “But we have 700,000 police officers, men and women. And they are extraordinary, for the most part.”
Ultimately, Patrick declared, ridding every law enforcement agency of every “bad apple” will not save our nation.
“We need a culture change to address this racism,” he declared. “You cannot change the culture of a country until you change the character of mankind. And you can’t change that unless you change the heart.
“And for billions of us on the planet, we believe you can’t do that unless you accept Jesus Christ, unless you accept God,” Patrick said. “And God has been left out of this equation through all of this.”
