The Christian news outlet The Christian Post has had its account restored to Twitter after being removed before the platform was acquired by Elon Musk after it referred to transgender federal official Rachel Levine as “a man.”
“Our Twitter account has just been reinstated after a 9-month suspension because we correctly called Biden official Rachel Levine a man — and we refused to retract this truth,” the outlet wrote in a tweet after the account was restored.
“As journalists, we understand our ethical obligation to provide accuracy over narrative and truth over opinion,” the outlet explained in the thread. “Calling a man a man is a scientific truth, not opinion. Editorializing facts is called commentary, opinion, or, in some cases, dishonesty.”
Levine, who was married with children when he began to identify as a woman in middle age, now serves as Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and is the highest-ranking openly transgender federal official in history.
The Christian Post’s offending tweet came last year when Levine was included among USA Today’s “Women of the Year,” which caused controversy at the time.
“USA Today names Rachel Levine, a man, among its ‘Women of the Year,’” the outlet tweeted at the time.
The Christian satire website, The Babylon Bee, was also penalized under Twitter’s former management for referring to Levine as a man, and like The Christian Post, refused to delete the tweet that labeled him as such.
“Twitter told us that if we remove the tweet of the CP article, ‘USA Today names Rachel Levine among its ‘Women of the Year,’ then our account will be restored,” The Post told CBN’s Faithwire at the time.
“We do not plan on removing the tweet. We will continue to speak the truth even if it costs us our Twitter account.”
The fortitude appears to have paid off, now that the platform is owned by Musk, a vocal free speech advocate and critic of Twitter’s previously censorial practices.
“Thanks to the free speech doctrine held by @elonmusk, our account has been reinstated, and we will continue speaking biblical truth, never in hate, always in love, and always to inform our readers to the best of our abilities,” The Post wrote.
Its Twitter thread also pointed to 2 Timothy 2:15: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
Amen!
Let the Post and The Babylon Bee be an example to us all to always walk in the light and the truth of Christ, never apologizing to the world for submitting to God’s authority first.
Only time will tell whether Musk’s attempts to combat censorship will have a significant impact on the culture, but there is no doubt that the changes taking place are very significant at this juncture in the culture war.
