“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling has landed herself back in the crosshairs of the affirmation-only transgenderism advocates after sounding off in a fiery and truth-laden Twitter thread.

After taking a brief moment to note that several fake tweets had been attributed to her, Rowling warned that she believes young people are being “shunted towards” dangerous hormones and surgery in a new kind of “conversion therapy.”

Rowling’s thread came in response to a July 4 post by a Twitter user who called out the author for ‘liking’ another post that claimed hormone prescriptions were “the new antidepressants.”

“Yes they are sometimes necessary and lifesaving, but they should be a last resort – not the first option. Pure laziness for those who would rather medicate than put in the time and effort to heal people’s minds,” read the post.

The post by @TrinerScot read: “Who had money on JK Rowling pivoting to supporting those who call people who take mental health medication ‘lazy’? I take daily medication to function, this sentiment is beyond offensive, it is actively harmful to millions.”

In the first of 11 tweets, Rowling began her response to @TrinerScot with: “I’ve ignored fake tweets attributed to me and RTed widely. I’ve ignored porn tweeted at children on a thread about their art. I’ve ignored death and rape threats. I’m not going to ignore this.”

“When you lie about what I believe about mental health medication and when you misrepresent the views of a trans woman for whom I feel nothing but admiration and solidarity, you cross a line,” Rowling continued.

Contrary to countless headlines that have painted Rowling as “anti-transgender” in recent months for her tenacious defense of the fact that transgender “women” and biological women are not the same, Rowling notes that the views of a “trans woman for whom [she feels] nothing but admiration and solidarity” were misrepresented.

Rowling goes on, explaining the concerns shared by parents and health professionals over the medical community’s shift to “affirmation-only” in treating children with gender dysphoria.

“Many, myself included, believe we are watching a new kind of conversion therapy for young gay people, who are being set on a lifelong path of medicalization that may result in the loss of their fertility and/or full sexual function,” Rowling continued. She went on to cite a BBC documentary about England’s controversial Tavistock Clinic which has been denounced by several ex-transgender people who say they were pushed through the transition process too hastily when what they needed was mental healthcare.

Rowling goes on to express that “transition may be the answer for some” and urges folks to listen to “detransitioners” who say that “the system sees surgery as the easy fix to girls who do not conform.”

Rowling clarifies that her intention was not to belittle users of antidepressants but to draw a parallel between their overprescription to children by lazy doctors and the push of hormones and puberty blockers on children, both with serious long-term health risks.

To bolster her point, she points to a pair of studies illustrating the issue.

“None of that may trouble you or disturb your belief in your own righteousness. But if so, I can’t pretend I care much about your bad opinion of me,” Rowling concludes, adding the original tweet by “Sophie” she had “liked” that had set off the incident, which simply states that “Hormone prescriptions are the new antidepressants. Yes they are sometimes necessary and lifesaving, but they should be a last resort – not the first option. Pure laziness for those who would rather medicate than put in the time and effort to heal people’s minds.”

Of course, Rowling’s thread made headlines as yet another “anti-trans” or “transphobic rant,” in spite of the fact that she literally cites, applauds, and affirms the statements o a transgender “woman”. But, as she previously stated, she doesn’t care much what folks will think of her for speaking the truth.

Good for her.
