Toledo’s 9-Year-Old Drag Queen, “Miss Mae Hem,” Was Inspired By RuPaul’s “Drag Race”

I think it’s safe to say the child drag queen has become a trend.

What is not safe is continuing this trend for young boys, or girls for that matter.

Even if you put aside all the confusion cross-dressing causes little children, there is the shockingly inapproproate aspect of allowing young children to dance on stage in very adult venues.

If these children were not in drag, this would never be considered appropriate.

What’s noteworthy about Toledo’s 9-year-old drag queen, Jacob, who goes by the stage name “Miss Mae Hem,” is that his mother openly admits he got the idea from watching Ru Paul’s “Drag Race.”

As with all these young drag performers, they clearly only got the idea because of the influence of their parents around them, and the promotion thereof. Many 9-year-old boys would probably want to emulate Evil Kenevil if they watched him on TV, but that doesn’t make it a good idea!

The Blade reports:

Miss Mae Hem [is] a drag queen who performs in shows around Toledo. Miss Mae Hem has performed in various shows around Toledo, and she’ll take the stage this weekend at Toledo’s Pride Festival for her second run at the event.

Jacob’s journey to the stage started two years ago when he began watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, a reality TV show featuring drag queens, with his mom, Jerri Measley.

“We started watching it in season four, and a couple of days later I asked my mom if I could do drag, and she said, ‘Yeah, sure,’” Jacob said.

And Mrs. Measley confirms her answer was that easy. The Measley family, of Perrysburg, is surrounded by people in the LGBTQ community, including many drag queens. The idea of becoming a drag queen wasn’t something foreign to Jacob and his parents.

Children look to their parents for moral guidance, and as with all child drag queens, the children only ever think this is OK because their parents say it is.

They are too young to understand the hyper-sexualized drag culture; it is their parents who are willingly exposing them to this.

Pray for these children!
