Tulsi Gabbard Files $50M Defamation Suit Against Hillary Clinton Over “Russian Asset” Remarks

For reasons undiscernible to this writer, people apparently still care about what Hillary Clinton has to say. Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard especially cares, to the tune of $50 million.

According to Fox Business, Gabbard is suing the former First Lady and Secretary of State for defamation stemming from an October 2019 interview in which Clinton indirectly referred to Gabbard as a “Russian asset”.

“Clinton lied about her perceived rival Tulsi Gabbard,” the lawsuit, filed in U.S. district court in New York, reads, in part. “She did so publicly, unambiguously, and with obvious malicious intent. Tulsi has been harmed by Clinton’s lies — and American democracy has suffered as well.”

“I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” Clinton said at the time, speaking on a podcast with David Plouffe, a former adviser to President Obama.

Although she never referred to Gabbard by name, there were just five women running for president at the time: Gabbard, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Marianne Williamson.

When a CNN reporter asked Clinton’s spokesperson, Nick Merril, if Gabbard was the candidate she was referring to, he said, “If the nesting doll fits.”

Fox Business continues:

Gabbard’s suit claimed she suffered “significant actual damages, personally and professionally, that are estimated to exceed $50 million—and continue to this day.”

Clinton’s remarks at the time ignited a political firestorm, evoking responses in defense of Gabbard from both President Trump and fellow Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders. Clinton has not responded publicly to the suit and did not immediately respond to a FOX Business request for comment.

Gabbard’s suit suggests that Clinton targeted her with a false accusation for “retribution” over her endorsement of Sanders, Clinton’s rival in the Democratic primary, in 2016. (Sanders eventually endorsed Clinton for president in July 2016).

“Tulsi was told that the Clinton team would never forget this,” the suit says.

While I’m inclined to applaud any measure that causes personal loss of any degree to Team Clinton, one can’t help but find this whole thing pitiful.

I mean, really, we’ve all been harmed in some way, shape, or form by Hillary Clinton’s lies, Tulsi! Get in line!

President Trump has been unendingly slandered as a “Russian asset” throughout his entire presidency. Does he sue them for it? Nope, he usually seems content to just tweet about it!

Speaking of Trump, remember when he was lobbing cabbages at Ted Cruz? Trump insinuated that Cruz’s father had a hand in the Kennedy assassination and tweeted an image comparing Melania Trump looking like an angel to Heidi Cruz looking like a shaved cat. Certainly not our president’s finest moments, but did Cruz sue? Again, nope! Cruz in fact has become one of the president’s strongest allies in Congress, and all without a courtroom hissy fit.

One can’t help but wonder if this is a desperate grasp for relevance before Gabbard, currently placing ninth nationwide among her fellow Dem candidates, slips quietly into oblivion.
