A Ugandan man who recently converted to Christianity from a Muslim family is recovering from a machete attack after his own brother struck him in an apparent attempt to take his life.
The 39-year-old victim, Abudlawali Kijwalo, is now recovering from the horrific attack.
Uganda is a predominantly Christian country, but the eastern region of the nation, where this attack occurred, has a higher concentration of of Muslims. According to Morning Star News, Kijawlo comes from a family of “devoted” sheiks, or Muslim leaders, and are hajjis, meaning they have made the pilgrimage to Mecca that every Muslim is called to make at some point in their lives if they are able.
Kijwalo’s said that his brother brother, Musoga Murishid, had reportedly heard him brother listening to Gospel music earlier in the day and was enraged that he had converted. His family had warned him against listening to Christian music or declaring that Christ was Lord.
The new Christian had been grazing his cattle when his brother sought him out.
“Are you still a Muslim, or you are now a Christian?” Murishid asked his brother.
“I am for Christ,” Kijwalo replied.
At this his brother withdrew a machete from his robes and struck his brother in the head with it. He then left him and walked away, apparently believing him to be dead.
A village elder found the wounded man bleeding profusely and managed to get him to safety, where he is recovering at an undisclosed site.
Earlier this month, a former Muslim teacher was beaten and poisoned by her own family after she accepted Christ while recovering from breast cancer. She also had to be held in an undisclosed location to recover from the horrific intestinal pain she suffered.
In June, an elderly Christian pastor who had converted several Muslims to Christianity in the area surrounding his village was attacked and killed on his way home from the market.
His widow, who witnessed the attack, said that the assailants called her husband an “infidel” who caused Muslims to abandon their faith and “blaspheme the words of Allah.”
“Today Allah has judged you,” they reportedly told the 70-year-old pastor, before slaying him.
One man who was arrested for the crime reportedly confessed that he had done so in obedience to Islam’s command to kill all infidels.
